When I took the Janome Memory Craft 11000 home, I immediately put it through its sewing paces. This machine includes features I used to believe were luxuries but have to come to rely on: automatic needle up/down, speed control, push-button reverse. I found the bobbin-winding system easy to use (there's a movie on the screen that shows you how to do it). The threading path is well-marked on the face of the machine (no thinking, just follow the arrows). The snap-on feet are easy to switch and I love that the moving parts are enclosed (I tend to lean close and catch my hair).
Then, I got out the manual and set up the machine for embroidery. Because I'm new to machine embroidery, first I watched the instructional DVD. Editing the designs is simple: enlarge, reduce, rotate, flip and move the designs to suit your project, all with the touch of a stylus (or your finger) on the screen.
When I found the feathered quilting designs, I wanted to use one to embroider and quilt at the same time. I "puddled" the quilt around the needle, so the embroidery unit wasn't trying to pull too much weight while stitching. It was fun, and I'm hooked.
There's much more to this machine than I had time to try. You can download designs into the machine in five different ways, including a wireless transfer from your computer. You can customize and combine stitches and save them into memory. If you're in the market for an easy-to-use, "it can do everything" machine, the Janome Memory Craft 11000 is worth a look.
