From the Editor
DianeQuiltmaker staff members recently made and donated small quilts to the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative. AAQI is a national grassroots charity whose mission is to raise awareness and fund research. The AAQI auctions and sells donated quilts, and sponsors a nationally touring exhibit of quilts about Alzheimer's.

Our quilts were sold during AAQI's January auction. They were started when AAQI founder Ami Simms visited us recently and led a mini-workshop for our staff and those of our sister publications, McCall's Quilting and Quilters Newsletter.

AAQI's website has a great list of 35 Ways You Can Help, which includes donating a small quilt of your own for the monthly auction. Quiltmaker wholeheartedly supports AAQI's efforts and invites you to do the same. Quiltmaker hereby grants permission for the use of any of our patterns for this purpose.

Wishing you Quilty Pleasures in 2011,

Quilty Causes in 2011
A new feature in 2011 issues of Quiltmaker has been named Quilty Causes. This column will introduce quilters who are helping others, using quilts as the vehicle. The Jan/Feb issue highlighted the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative. March/April sheds light on three small groups of quilters who are doing big things. You'll want to read about the HeartStrings Quilt Project, the Queen Bees from Lynchburg, Virginia and the Interfaith Quilters from Longmont, Colorado.

What are your favorite Quilty Causes? How have you used quilting to help others? We'd love to know. Your ideas may turn up in a future issue of QM. We'd invite you to leave feedback on our Facebook page.

Quiltmaker has many free patterns online that are perfect for charity quilts. Visit our Project Linus page to see them all.
