We have so enjoyed the comments from you, our readers, during Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks Blog Tour. Thank you for being here. We have decided to declare some surprise winners. Each one will receive a copy of 100 Blocks Volume 3. Zippity Zinnia!!!

Diane chooses the very first comment of the blog tour and the first comment from each day this week (yay for Night Owls and international readers!):

Samelia’s Mum

Lynne at Treadles & Treasures

Donna

Lisa Broughton

Arlette from Costa Rica

Zina

June declares:

Mary (Comment #29) on Denise’s post In the Bag a winner for the first use of the word “hamburger” ever in a comment on Quilty Pleasures.

I know I asked for it in my Zippity Zinnia post, but the earworm I can’t get rid of now is MaryBeth Little (Comment #65) with her suggestion of “Ice Ice Baby”. (Don’t worry, be happy–I’ll still be picking a regular winner from that post later.)

Denise picks:

Jackie (Comment #45) from In the Bag: because I have a 10 year old son and for many years I also found rocks in my purse! I think my son still has a rock collection hidden somewhere!

JoAnne Murphy (Comment #101) from In the Bag: because I really like her beach glass souvenir from Spain.

Carolyn picks:

Paul (comment #24) from Tweet Street: I like his honesty in saying “the block itself, just standing alone didn’t inspire me. But I could actually see myself doing TS4 out of that block.”

Deb M (Comment #46 from Tweet Street: for her imagination “turned so the zig-zags are horizontal instead of vertical…with a snake head on each one…or lizard head and legs! Oh, imagination gone wild. You guys have created a monster.”

Paula picks:

Claudia (comment #117) from Going in Circles: because she likes Hexagons and I am working on my first ever hexagon quilt and I am TOTALLY addicted.

MelMeister (comment #65) from Going in Circles: because she likes polk-a-dots and I love, love, LOVE polk-a-dots! I must have over 100 polk-a-dot fabrics and I am always looking for more.

Nancy B (comment #62) from Going in Circles: because she said she “loves flying geese!” ….and I hate them!….I do everything I can to avoid making them. So, you go girl!!

Eileen picks:

Nancy B from Many LA for her creative poem:

I spent some time at various sites
each day for the 100 Blocks Blog Tour.
At least a couple hours daily was spent this way,
I wish (kinda!) that there was more.
Alas, all good things must come to an end,
it was a lot of fun!
My keyboard got drooled on, my imagination was fueled on,
and some new projects to be begun!

<del>SewLindaAnn from Sunblock for her beach block ideas: “I’d like to see pieced beach balls in the sand with water in the background, or a couple of beach balls and a beach umbrella in the sand, or a starfish (that would be very cool).” (Thanks SewLindaAnn. Since I live in the Rockies, I think a field trip is needed to research this design idea!) </del> SewLindaAnn has already won a copy of 100 Blocks and has generously asked us to pick another winner. Thanks, SewLindaAnn!

Diana for her suggested follow up to Sunblock: “Would you be able to transform a rainbow into a paper-pieced pattern?” It would be a challenge, but I love the idea of playing with all the colors!

Wow, you were all so clever with your entries in the Dr. Seuss fabric giveaway. I’ve had a hard time picking two winners. Plus, since the entry deadline passed, we’ve been working almost nonstop on 100 Blocks, Vol. 2. (That issue heads to the printer next week and is on sale Nov. 16.) Oh, and launching Quilmaker’s Treasure Hunt. And thinking about getting ready for Quilt Market. My days have been very full . . . Now back to Seuss.

The submissions were creative and clever–they were so fun they made me grin. But then, I had to pick two, just two, to receive fabric. So no more hemming and hawing, Shelly Womack and robin are each getting two yards of Cat in the Hat fabric from Robert Kaufman. Congratulations to them–their entries are repeated below. And thanks to all who entered. We’re going to have to do more giveaways that stretch your creativity!

Shelly Womack

I built a quilt for my friend Milt
With old shirts he gave away.
Once complete with plaids and prints
An unusual color way.

Milt said about the quilt I built
About the greens, the reds
And many blues,
“I like this quilt, I do, I do!
It matches my left shoes!”

Milt Looking at the quilt I built
Named every shirt he wore.
Where and when he bought them,
each and every store.

Milt took the quilt I built and said,
“ I like this thing you do –
This quilty quilt you built;
You made my old shirts new!

robin

A quilter who quilts
Dr. Suess, it would seam,
Has unlimited help
She can quilt up her dream!

From Thing 1 and Thing 2
then to Hopping on Pop
Of course Fishes in teapots
Make awesome quilt tops!

Is there fabric of Whoville?
And Mulberry Street?
Of the Lorax, or Horton?
That would really be neat!

Oh the quilts I would quilt!
Oh the stitches I’d stitch!
Oh the blankets I’d build!
I’d stitch one of the Grinch!
I’m just ITCHING
to stitch up a quilt
of the GRINCH!

But alas! We shall see . . .
If I do get a stash
Of this Dr. Suess fabric
Without paying cash.

There are other poems, too!
And their authors quite clever.
I don’t know if I can
Make my rhymes sound much better.

All I can do is to sit, sit, sit, sit -
Think what pattern would be fun
To quilt Suess
If I won!

Wow–what a great response to my Meet Me at the Manor question. And for an unknown number of unidentified prizes!

First, I loved reading your responses and, while I don’t have an official tally, it looks like both the original Summer colorway and the Autumn color option are the clear favorites. Then Batiks and Blue & White, followed by the 1930s. Plus, I think all of the holiday suggestions are great too. This would be a very fun Halloween or Christmas quilt. Who’s going to make one?

On to the prizes and winners. I rounded up leftover fabric from our Sept/Oct quilts and have enough to pick five winners. Using random.org, the winning comments are #’s 66,	64,	29, 3 and	24. Winners have been contacted by email.

1. Bull Run Nine Patch—#66 Karen A wins some of the Blue Hill fabric we used in the quilt and some that didn’t make it into the quilt.

2. Triangle Tricks—#64 Lindsay wins a pretty big bundle of many of the Robert Kaufman fabric that we used in this quilt.

3. Simple Abundance—#29 Jessica will get some jelly roll strips and yardage from Moda that didn’t make it into this easy table runner.

4. Practical Magic—#3 Regina might just be getting enough Robert Kaufman batiks to make the whole thing.

5. Asian Autumn—#24 Stacy wins some lovely taupes from Maywood Studios with a variety of sampler fabric that didn’t make it into our finished project.

Thanks everyone for participating. Remember as you think about Meet Me at the Manor, we do have starter kits available in all the colorways shown in Sept/Oct ’10. See the newest QM products.

Those three people have been notified by email and, once I’ve verified their shipping addresses, I’ll announce their names here.

Winners of the 100 Block issues are listed in this post–and I think we still have a few names to add there as well. We’ve been mailing the issues out since last week, so watch for your copy soon if you won.

OK–now it’s back to regular work for the QM Staff. We’ve got January/February ’10 web content to get ready to post next week, March/April ’10 patterns to write and proofread and more quilty pleasures to plan and get ready for you. We’ll be back to our normal 2-3 posts per week instead of 2-3 posts per day.

Be sure to post pictures of the projects you make from 100 Blocks in our flickr group! Can’t wait to see what you create!

Update 11/17/09: The U.S./Canada winners are:

Debbi Price from Des Moines, WA

Valorie Kortus from Loveland, CO

Congratulations–I’m going to pack up your prizes for UPS to pick up!

I have not yet heard from the Outside U.S./Canada winner. I’ll send another email today and if I don’t hear from her by 10 am on Wednesday, I’ll pick someone else.

Update 11/19: It took a little longer because the first name drawn was from the U.S and ineligible, but then emma #46 from Australia was randomly selected as our international winner–congratulations emma and thanks to all for participating!
