4 Block of the Month Quilts to Make in 2017

Don’t you just love block of the month quilts? It’s nice to have a larger quilt project in the works that you can create a little bit at a time. Ribbon Floral

Ribbon Floral: Designed by Jean Nolte, this eight-month BOM medallion quilt features a center compass block with a kaleidoscope center and unique ribbon borders. Isn’t it beautiful? Over the Meadow

Over the Meadow: Designed by Jan Patek, this seasonal appliqué sampler is whimsical and so much fun. The 12-month BOM takes you on a year-long journey through the seasons, from appliquéd bunnies to sailboats to snowmen. The finished size of the quilt is 82” x 98”, and kits include fabric from Moda, the program sponsor. The free video lessons are taught by Jan Patek and provide step-by-step guidance as you learn techniques for hand applique and hand quilting, including working with freezer paper, needle-turn applique, inside curves, outside curves, inside points, outside points, narrow applique pieces and more! You’ll also learn how to finish your quilt with sashing and borders.

Ruby’s Garden

Ruby’s Garden: String piecing, fusible appliqué, 3-D flowers, yo-yos, a scalloped border and bias binding are all featured on this gorgeous 10-month BOM quilt designed by Jean Nolte. The finished size of this queen/king sized quilt is 99” x 99”, and the kits include fabric from the Ruby’s Garden collection by Paintbrush Studio, the program sponsor. The free video lessons are hosted by Jenny Kae Parks and will provide step-by-step guidance as you learn techniques such as: flip-and stitch quick-piecing, improvisational string piecing, fusible raw-edge applique, folded fabric flowers, bias stems, y-seams and more.

Essex *Coming Soon!*

Essex: Here’s a sneak peek at Essex, an eight-month BOM that will be available soon on quiltandsewshop.com. This queen-size quilt features a center medallion block and a variety of star blocks. Kits will include fabric from the Essex collection by Quilting Treasures, the program sponsor. The finished size is 80” x 96”. Techniques include four-at-a-time Flying Geese units, quick triangle-squares and the diagonal seams method for patchwork. Free video tutorials with Jenny Kae Parks will be available on QNNtv.com.

    Essex by far for me. I just never agree with the colors, sigh, wish we could get the pattern separately and do it as a quilt along!

    I LOVE Ruby’s Garden. I am debating with myself about signing up to make it. The Essex is beautiful, too. But Ruby’s Garden really strikes a cord with me.

    I love the look and colors of essex, but enjoy more than just piecing, so I am deciding between over the meadow and ruby’s garden. I love applique and EPP.

    I love the Essex pattern, just not the colors or fabrics! Contrary me . . . one reason I don’t buy kits . . . I prefer BOM’s that just give instructions and let me pick my own fabric.

    Yes, the Essex is the BOM I can actually see myself as completing. I like the look of all three of the others, but for some reason the Essex creates excitement in me.
