QM1704 COVER 500 New Issue: Quiltmaker March/April 17

On the cover: Scott Flanagan’s Sand and Sea quilt pattern

The March/April 2017 issue of Quiltmaker is hot off the press, and we’ve got a couple changes beginning with this edition. The main thing? It’s bigger! We’ve added more pages of quilt patterns as well as helpful tutorials for techniques like how to resize quilt blocks and more. We’re also putting a greater focus on quilting with more quilting options and diagrams to help you plan your own quilting. A total of 16 quilts are included in this issue, including patterns for English paper piecing, appliqué, foundation paper piecing, scrap quilts, pre-cut strips and more. Take a peek below at a few of the new patterns:

Sand and Sea: The striking cover quilt is Sand and Seadesigned by Scott Flanagan. Unlike traditional chevron designs that are made with Flying Geese or Triangle-Squares, this easy design is made from simple strips and squares. It’s perfect for using up pre-cut strips from your stash, and there’s even a couple surprises in store — you can use the leftover units to create a bonus throw quilt! Plus, Scott also adapted the original quilt into an adorable little mini quilt pattern for you, too.

Tilt n’ Whirl quilt pattern

Tilt n’ Whirl: Kate Colleran wanted to try a design using curves, and she delivered with this whimsical medallion style quilt. It’s bright and happy and sure to add electric charm to any room. And if you’re new to curved piecing, don’t worry — we’ve included a helpful step-by-step photo tutorial in the magazine for you. A time-saving kit is available.

QM1704 SCOTTISH 450style New Issue: Quiltmaker March/April 17

Scottish Highland Stars quilt pattern

Scottish Highland Stars: Bold stars and the colors of a clan tartan come together on this gorgeous design from Emily Bailey. The scrappy pieced sashings make this design unique, and Flying Geese make it quick to put together the blocks. A time-saving kit is available.

QM1704 FLAMING 450flat New Issue: Quiltmaker March/April 17

Flaming Star quilt pattern

Flaming Star: Careful color placement in this two-block quilt designed by Lynn Kline creates this interesting design. The pieced border continues the star motif to the edge of the quilt and to the illusion of an infinite sky. “We recently moved to the country and I am just amazed at the number of stars in the sky,” Lynn told us of her inspiration for the design.

QM1704 PIXEL 450style New Issue: Quiltmaker March/April 17

Pixel Plaid quilt pattern

Pixel Plaid: Kristin Lawson combined two similar blocks to create this pixelating design. If you’re looking for a bright and colorful scrap quilt, this one is just the ticket! Gather together assorted light fabrics, dark gray fabrics and bright fabrics to recreate the look of bright colors popping against the scrappy background.

This issue also includes part 2 of our Dreaming of Spring wool and flannel series quilt, a new Bonnie Hunter Addicted to Scraps quilt block and more. Browse our online gallery to preview all the quilt patterns included in this issue.

I’m very happy to have a digital subscription to Quiltmaker … and this is a very nice issue. I usually download the pdf to be able to look at without having to use internet. Just would like to let you know that there is NO offline version available for this issue. I’ve saved your .pdf issues for years and enjoy going back to them to get ideas and motivation! For this issue, there is a .pdf.zip that is EMPTY!!! Help please!!! Thanks!
