Machine Quilting Help, Ideas, Resources

Quiltmaker has declared 2014 as The Year of Machine Quilting. You’ve told us you need help to improve your machine quilting. Most questions come in two forms:

  1. How to machine quilt

We have started a series of machine quilting Chapters on our Machine Quilting page. You’ll find two helpful chapters so far:

  1. Quick Start Guide
  2. Early Challenges in Machine Quilting

They’ll help you get started right away so you can finish your UFOs, practice and improve, and be proud of your machine quilting skills. I’m working on Lesson 3 right now.

We’ve added light-hearted features too!

About Diane Harris

I'm an editor for Quiltmaker magazine in Golden, Colorado, USA. For six years, I wrote pattern instructions, product reviews and how-to articles. Then I spent four years as QM's Interactive Editor, working to generate much of our online content. Now I'm back to patterns and how-tos, which is a great fit for me. I still love writing about quilt-related topics for Quilty Pleasures, and I always have my finger on the pulse of the quilting world. I teach a variety of quilt classes and give guild programs, too. Good Morning,
A friend forwarded me the link to the get started guide a few days ago. I have always hand quilted and for a queen or king quilt it literally takes me years to finish. Machine quilting would be the solution for me. I tried to follow the guide, but see I am referred to pages in back issues of Quiltmaker Mag. Then I do not see further chapters . Am I out of luck with this?

  2. Becky Couture says:

I love it! I’m always trying to improve my quilting as that can make or break the quilts I’ve been making and today, I’m doing pebbling, stippling, meandering, fancy stitches and stitch in the ditch. The quilt is coming out awesome!! I’m very pleased with it! I have the book, “501 Quilting Motifs” and it is fantastic! Already used some of the patterns in it. Thank you so much!!
