About Diane Harris

I'm an editor for Quiltmaker magazine in Golden, Colorado, USA. For six years, I wrote pattern instructions, product reviews and how-to articles. Then I spent four years as QM's Interactive Editor, working to generate much of our online content. Now I'm back to patterns and how-tos, which is a great fit for me. I still love writing about quilt-related topics for Quilty Pleasures, and I always have my finger on the pulse of the quilting world. I teach a variety of quilt classes and give guild programs, too. 1. Albert says:

I’m trying to learn more abour machine quilting with domestic sewing machine.Planning to try paper piecing soon.

  2. Janet T says:

I like to do hand applique at night to relax me before going to sleep, and piecing when I get a chance during the day.

  3. Bev Hernandez says:

    I love piecing scrappy fabrics.

  4. Nancy Smith says:

My favorite would have to be the back basting method of applique. It is so much fun & you don’t have to cut out a lot of templates.

  5. Colleen Bass says:

I started quilting by machine piecing. I really enjoy that, but a new favorite of mine is applique. Then I can either put it on with the machine or take it with me to do by hand. My absolute guilty pleasure is seeing and touching all of the amazing material! I don’t even pick a pattern until until I find a material that grabs me. (And if you are anything like me there are so many awesome fabrics that it is sometimes difficult to stop buying, haha.) Thank you for this amazing opportunity!

  6. Sharon says:

Like machine piecing using techniques that give fast results!

  7. I have been bitten by the “Scrap Bug” (I totally blame Bonnie Hunter for this). I’ve been piecing traditional patterns with scraps. I’ve even sliced up half of my yardage just to have more scraps! Loving it! I’m also working on a machine applique quilt for my grandbaby called “Critters Dancing in the Moonlight”…it’s turning out SO cute. Would love to win an issue, but more importantly would LOVE LOVE LOVE that mug!!

  8. Marti Rajotte says:

I love playing with my fabric!! every time I get something in (I live in a small town and ‘visit’ many LQS online. That it is the first experience I have before picking the pattern, picking out the particular fabrics to be used and then piecing the flimsy! The rest depends upon the size of the quilt if it is large one – then it goes to a long-arm quilter. If I am particularly brave – I may quilt it myself. Paying with fabric – that’s the best!!!

  9. Joanne Donovan says:

I love to make 9-patches, then do Stitch-In-the-Ditch quilting when it’s time. It really makes them stand out!! Would love to win the book or the fabrics!! Having fun with both!!

  10. Terri Drake says:

I LOVE applique! I find it very relaxing to applique by hand and it can go anywhere I do without having to pull my machine along. It’s a great ice breaker for starting conversations and I find it amazing how many people want to learn how to do it. I often use thread painting to embellish an appliqued piece before I assemble the top for quilting. Thanks for the opportunity to win the next 100 Blocks book. Love seeing all the wonderful blocks that are being created. Good luck to everyone and may each and everyone of you enjoy all the best that life has to offer.
