If you missed the earlier parts of the pattern, please scroll down to see them. There are many versions of the quilt, which makes for lots of inspiration!

Playground Part 5: Quilting, Binding and Labeling

Layer and baste together the backing, batting and quilt top. Refer to the quilting placement diagram below.

Outline quilt the rings in the block Y’s as shown. Quilt gentle curves in the block Z’s and the sections as shown. Quilt the borders in the ditch. Quilt straight lines approximately 1″ apart in border #2. Bind the quilt. Every quilt needs a label, so we asked Denise Starck, QM’s Graphic Designer, to create one. She used the Back to School logo and added lines to personalize.

Jeannie did a nice job of arranging the blocks, several of which are low contrast, which makes their placement even more important. I’d love to own this quilt.

All the quilts are lovely! But, I love Asian fabrics so I’ll cast my vote for Wanda Philbin’s quilt using Red Rooster’s “Tadashi” line. I would have loved to have won those fabrics! =/

  10. Ray Janikowski says:

I’ve enjoyed seeing all the variety in the colors and fabrics in the quilts. If I have to pick a favorite, I choose the one completed by Margaret Kennedy because of the strong contrast between the light background and the darker fabrics.

  11. Donna Gerken says:

Love the simply sweet version, all those great colors for a baby quilt….

  12. Margaret Lawrence says:

My fave is the one made by Lavonna in Robert Kaufman’s “Studio Stash.” I love how the greys make the colors pop!

  13. Cecilia says:

I like the version made with the Stonehenge fabrics, because they are such gorgeous Fall colors. But, all of the versions were beautiful.

I like Lavonna’s quilt because I’m a girl who like a lot of gray in my quilts, and I like what using stripes does for this quilt. It was fun to see that approach in two of the blocks.

  20. Carla G says:

I love the one made by Lavonna made with Studio Stash fabrics by Jennifer Sampou for Robert Kaufman. I just love how the colors pop on this version! Thanks for a chance to win! :)
