QM’s 100 Blocks Vol. 7: Bus Stop block #696

Do you have your copy of Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks Vol. 7 yet? If not, maybe this cute block will entice you to pick up a copy. It’s called “Bus Stop” and is the next vehicle in my fleet (click here to see my Rescue No. 1 block from Volume 6). It’s made using scraps and sews together very quickly.

When I design a block like this, I use Google images to search for examples. It helps me with colors, proportions and details. I did the same thing for Rescue No. 1 in Vol. 6 and when we design our Patch Pals.

After a 16 year absence, I returned to quilting 8 years ago. The internet is what inspires me. So many beautiful quilts and all the information I needed to get back into quilting. I love perusing the blogs for ideas and just for the beauty.

  20. Linda says:

My inspiration originates with the fabrics themselves. I rarely decide on a quilt then search for the fabric. I buy fabric I like and then it finds it’s way into a future quilt. If the fabric is bright with bold colors and prints it will say, “I’m a contemporary quilt, so find me a contemporary, modern home.” If the colors are subdued they might say, “we belong in a well loved and lived in home”. Then I envision what kind of house would hold such a quilt and where it might be located – a cabin by the lake in the north woods, a house on the beach, a loft in Manhattan, a ski-in ski-out A-frame in the Rockies or a farmhouse in the Midwest. When I get that in mind – the quilt pretty much designs itself.
