Welcome to Day 1 of Quiltmaker’s Countdown to Christmas. On weekdays through
Dec. 21, we’ll share holiday cheer with you here on Quilty Pleasures.

Think patterns, freebies, recipes and giveaways. Some days will be simple quilty Christmas eye candy—all you have to do is enjoy it. Let’s just relax and have some fun together.
You may be familiar with Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks. It’s a special issue we publish twice a year and there are now six different volumes. In each volume there have been a few blocks with Christmas or winter or holiday themes.
This is Snowman Farm by QM’s Editor-in-Chief June Dudley. It appears in Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks Volume 2. I think it’s one of the cutest blocks we’ve ever published.

Here’s more of a bird’s-eye view. There’s a lesson here: by stepping away from what you’re making, you’ll get a different perspective. Always look at your work from at least six to eight feet away. You’ll be amazed what a difference it makes.
This is Holiday Tea by Melissa Harris and Arlene Stamper of The Quilt Company. This elegant block is also from Volume 2 of Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks.
Ice Crystal by QM Associate Editor Eileen Fowler, below, was the first in a series of intricate seasonal blocks she designed. Volume 2 contained this oh-so-chilly beauty.
If you can sew on a straight line, you can make this block. People can hardly believe it when they’re first introduced to paper piecing, but it’s the truth!
In Volume 3 we published Holiday Season by Cynthia Foster of Carter Creek Quilts, above.
Blooming Trumpets by Martha Walker is another favorite that doesn’t have to be in the holiday category, but surely could be. Martha is the designer behind Wagons West Designs.
The same is true of Star Flower by Barbara Bieraugel. It wouldn’t have to be considered Christmas, but it definitely fits in with our holiday theme.
This is the more lighthearted Say Cheese! by Joni Pike of Sew Special Designs. Love those photo corners.
And if your taste runs to a soft palette of Christmas colors, I think Game Board would be just perfect. It was designed by Pam Vieira-McGinnis, aka Pam Kitty Morning.
That’s just a taste of the holiday blocks we have published. Each image is linked to our store site where you can purchase the issue it’s in if you don’t already have it.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this small show & tell. See you back here tomorrow for more Countdown to Christmas fun!
