    I love the memories of the Christmas eve childrens programs with the recitations they had to learn, to the candy bags after church. My children have now grown & unfortunately the childrens programs of old are no longer, but we still have the Christmas eve candle light service & our church adopts an unfortunate family with children for christmas presents, & enough groceries for a christmas meal, What a joy to see the delight in everyones eyes when these are delivered.

    I love the holidays, spending time with family – maybe, a white christmas (just for the day mind you). Making special items for family and Oh, Yes, don’t forget baking cookies from my favorite cookie cookbook. As kids we were allowed to open one gift on the 24th, but my husband could not. When the kids were little we followed my tradition, now they are grown, my husband’s. We always put out our Navaity set and remember the true meaning of the holiday. Merry Christmas to all.

    I love the smells of Christmas. Fresh baked cookies. Pies. Breads. Cakes. And of course, fudge! I also love to turn off the room lights at night, turn on the tree lights, lay by the tree and listen to Christmas songs. I used to do this as a child (only I sat in the back of the tree where no one could find me), and still like to do this with my grandchildren.

    What I love most about the holiday season is decorating the house. As a child, I would lie down by the Christmas tree at my Grandmother’s house and play with her nativity set for hours. I would playact the Christmas story. As an adult, smelling the tree and the twinkling lights brings me back to childhood. My collection of nativities stems from the wonder I felt as a child thinking about the birth of our Saviour.

    I love the entire season, the practices at church getting ready for the excitement of the Christmas worship. The secretive planning and sewing of many home made gifts involving the just prefect fabric suiting the person it is for…making cookies for the grand kids and to share with the neighbors and rest of the family. Decorating the whole house in the holiday theme, including all the nativity sets we have collected over the years…almost one for every room. Reminding us of what the season really means. It is truly my favorite season of the year.
