QMMS 120024 STARCK1 100 Blocks Vol. 6: Rescue No. 1

Rescue No. 1

As “Mom” to a 12-year-old son, I often try to design more “boy-like” quilts since they seem harder to come by, so a truck block seemed like obvious choice this time. You may remember my skateboard quilt, Kickflip, which appeared in Quiltmaker May/June ’12 – another great pattern for the young man in your life. My son loves it on his bed.

Rescue No.1 does have it’s share of patches in it, however, the piecing goes together very easily. Take a look at this cutting list!

I got into a wee bit of trouble around here because my pattern takes up more than the allotted half page – whoops!   icon wink 100 Blocks Vol. 6: Rescue No. 1    The rest of the assembly diagrams are on another page because there wasn’t enough room – but it was too cute to try to simplify it! It helps that I “know people,” ya know?

So for stopping by our Quilty Pleasures blog today, you have an opportunity to win a complimentary copy of Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks Volume 6 and a much-coveted 100 Blocks mug!

Love the fire engine! As a Grandma with 8 grandsons I would say a bright yellow dump truck.

  2. Tamsyn says:

I think dump truck block would be great. Love the fire engine block! Tamsyn

How about a fancy sports car for the older “boys”?

  4. Kathy Lancaster says:

Was lucky enough to win a copy of the book in the blog tour, now I would love to win the mug.

How cute! I’d have to say ambulance to make a full out rescue quilt.

  6. Becky S says:

How about a police car or a school bus.
Thanks for the chance to win. I can’t wait to get a copy of the magazine!

  7. Joyce Penney says:

Love this block! How about a steamroller, an ambulance, a train engine or a backhoe next? Thanks for thinking of the guys; my grandsons will appreciate this one!

  8. Wilma says:

My 2 year old great-grandson loves anything with wheels. He would love a quilt with tractors, trucks and cars on it.

  9. Gladys says:

Since it has its beautiful fire truck, you need an ambulance making company! Don’t you think you? Have a nice day!

  10. Kathy H says:

Great block! I think a yellow taxi would be fun.

  11. Teri says:

That’s a cool block. In keeping with the rescue theme, I vote for a police car next or an ambulance.

  12. Cecilia Young says:

I would like to see an airplane that actually looks like one. :) My granddaughter would also love to see a tractor. Cute block. Thanks for the chance to win.

  13. Gun Adrian says:

I was going to suggest a train, but then I happened to see the first comment, which was a train! So how about a tuoringbus, you can always sew some heavy name on it!

    Cute cute cute!!!!!
Wish I had a grandson to sew for! I guess I can borrow my BFF’s:) haha!!!
    A firetruck would be awesome!

  15. Deb G. in VA says:

I think a tractor would be cute!

  16. DianeH says:

How about an ambulance helicopter. Your firetruck is great.

  17. Gwen says:

Seems to be the latest craze, how about a Food Truck, you could use all sorts of
prints to decorate the sides. Thanks for the chance to win.

  18. Bulldozer! Or monster truck with huge wheels, which seems to be what 5 yo nephew always wants to show me :)

  19. Marilyn Snow says:

The fire truck is very cute! I instantly thought of my nephew who is a firefighter. I think most boys like anything on wheels.

  20. Martha Varino says:

My GGS loves lions…maybe a circus train car with animals in it.

  21. Susan C says:

Love this block! Just read a book about trucks to my grandson. He liked the tanker truck and the cement mixer.

  22. Lee Ann L. says:

Hmm, that is a tough one. Do you want to continue service vehicles? If so, how about a police car? Ambulance? Or a different kind of Fire Truck?

Me personally, I would love to see a farming tractor. Of course, that isn’t a service vehicle. But, I do love tractors. :-)

  23. Donna Chambers says:

Ambulance – the little boys at a preschool opposite my place used to hang over the defence when the patient transport ambulance arrive to pick me to take me into the local hospital speech clinic.

  24. Deise says:

How about a fire truck? A rocket would be nice as well.

  25. Marie says:

I too am a mom of a son. He is 29 years old now but still loves cars. How about a race car?

  26. Shar F. says:

That is a great block! I think a hayrack would be fun!

  27. Diana says:

Is a wagon a vehicle? Not sure, but I think it would be super cute, filled with boy toys!

  28. Joyce Ensey says:

I think a police car would be nice, but I also like the school bus idea.

  29. Shari says:

I think you should add a police car, then move on to construction equipment.

  30. Patti says:

Such a cute block and I have the perfect boy in mind to make this for. I think the next vehicle should be a police car (sticking with the fire and rescue theme).

  31. Janice Brown says:

How about a school bus – maybe some children in the windows – or some “kid-fun” fabric!

  32. Sharon Hughson says:

Since we are still seeing power co. vehicles after Hurricane Sandy around here. I vote for a Power Co. vehicle with a cherry picker on top! Thanks to them we have POWER! (For sewing of course).

  33. Judy Prescott says:

How about a water tanker? Our fire department has one with a nozzle that they use to put out fires in the trees. Love the fire truck!!!

  34. Judy S says:

I go along with the ambulance. Continue the rescue vehicle theme.
Thanks for another opportunity to win a magazine and mug.

  35. Roxanne Hartwig says:

My husband is an excavation contractor, so I would love to see a bulldozer or a backhoe for your next block! Thanks!

  36. Holly says:

How fun! I can think of a number of boys who would enjoy Rescue No. 1. Also, in any farming community, tractors are the big delight for any guy – young and old. One school in the area even has a “drive your tractor to school day”.

  37. Linda E in AZ says:

That is adorable! How about a dump truck next time?

  38. Kristy Paynter says:

I asked my 4yo what block should be next and he said a Lion. I explained it should be another vehicle/truck/construction etc… and he answered a fire person. So in his mind this should have one block fire truck and another block a fireman holding the hose. :) I say a cop car, an ambulance or a camo tanker truck! So much fun!!

  39. Elma Lutman says:

I think an old fashion steam locomotive would be a good block to try. A helicopter would also be pretty neat. Thanks for the chance to win the magazine and mug.

  40. Regina says:

Delorean for “Back to the Future”??? Or a rocket.

  41. Janet Frank says:

I agree with dump truck. It’s really nice to have blocks for boys as there are so many suitable for girls, but, not that many for boys. Thanks for helping with this…and for the giveaway.

  42. Dianne Bondaroff says:

What a gorgeous block! Hard to top that one. I would like to suggest two – a dump truck or a race car. Thanks for a chance to win – I’d be very pleased to own that mug!

An ambulance would be my vote. I just love love these blocks!

  44. grahamplaid says:

When my boys were little, they always loved trucks with parts that moved so they could operate them. So, consider any variation of a truck! Thanks for your fire engine pattern.

  45. Brenda Hulsey says:

Love that block! Yes it is hard to find blocks for little boys and big boys too! I’d like to find a block for a nice looking racecar or a tractor. lots of boys out there like tractors!

  46. Judy says:

A police car or ambulance would be good to stay with the rescue theme.

  47. Jeanne says:

Since my husband is a 911 emergency dispatcher, the first thing I thought of was a police car to go with the fire truck. What little boy doesn’t like police cars?

  48. Cathryn H says:

Love the Fire Engine! Love the Mug, too! I would think a Train Caboose would be good as they don’t put them on the end of trains anymore – guess that makes them obsolete. Or maybe an antique car?

  49. Lizzie says:

Lovely block! My kidsare too old for it and I still likeit! How about a scoop or back hoe?

  50. Martina says:

Oh this is so cute! My son would love to have a police car or a police helicopter.

  51. Debra Neiman says:

A Fire Engine or a Dump Truck!

  52. Plows or dump trucks were favorites when my boys were little. Love the magazine!

  53. Terri says:

So glad I decided to visit this post! I have 3 grandsons and am just finishing a quilt for each – “Candy”, “Nascar” and “Football” themes – Love the fire truck – thanks for thinking about the BOYS!! I’m sure whatever you decide will be fun! Thanks so much.

  54. lauriejo says:

The fire truck is really cute. When my son was young his favorite vehicle was the space shuttle, I think it could be a great block. But you couldn’t go wrong with a block featuring anything from Tonka!

The cars would make a good quilt for a boy.

Oh, yes, it’s gotta be a tractor! Green, please!

Keep them coming, Denise! My grandsons are going to love a quilt made from the resulting blocks.

How about some construction equipment-a dump truck or a payloader.

  64. Beulah says:

    I see a series in the making here…. :)
What’s not to love about an entire quilt of cars and trucks?
Might be easier on you if you start with A and work throught the alphabet…ambulance, army tank, bus, bike, carriage, cart, dump truck…….
    Adorable block!

  65. Laura says:

  66. Loretta Griffin says:

Cars and other rescue vehicles would be cute also.

  67. Kathy says:

Having two boys I have a list of ideas for your next vehicle! Diesel train engine ( all you ever find is steam engine patterns), race car, dump truck, tow truck, digger, or semi truck. Love your fire engine! Thanks for the chance to win a copy of the magazine and a mug!

  68. Kelly Cline says:

The little boys that I am around really like backhoes and things with a scoop. Nice block!!

Truck could convert to a fire engine :-) Just change the ladder to yellow.
Mug looks fantastic and so does the magazine.
