We hope you had a great time last week during our 100 Blocks designer blog tour. Today we continue unveiling blocks designed by the Quiltmaker staff. Here is my block from Volume 6 – a super cute fire engine, named Rescue No. 1! I just love it. I’m envisioning a whole fleet of vehicles down the road.
Rescue No. 1
As “Mom” to a 12-year-old son, I often try to design more “boy-like” quilts since they seem harder to come by, so a truck block seemed like obvious choice this time. You may remember my skateboard quilt, Kickflip, which appeared in Quiltmaker May/June ’12 – another great pattern for the young man in your life. My son loves it on his bed.
Rescue No.1 does have it’s share of patches in it, however, the piecing goes together very easily. Take a look at this cutting list!
I got into a wee bit of trouble around here because my pattern takes up more than the allotted half page – whoops! 
The rest of the assembly diagrams are on another page because there wasn’t enough room – but it was too cute to try to simplify it! It helps that I “know people,” ya know?

Just change the ladder to yellow.
Mug looks fantastic and so does the magazine.
I think any of the construction vehicles, as well as more rescue vehicles. Bob the Builder (kids show) would probably have great inspiration. I think there are already lots of boat and car patterns, but less in the work vehicle realm.
My great nephews would enjoy farming vehicles. Thanks.

I’d love to see some construction trucks, little boys can’t seem to get enough of them.
My oldest son loved excavators, and my younger one loved tractors, so those are my suggestions. Love your fire engine!
I would like to see a bike block, although it wouldn’t really go with the firetruck. How about a police car?

I so love the idea of Construction and Rescue Trucks – my Son would have loved that. My Son’s first word was CAR. Boys love things that move. You have done a great job!
My GS would love any kind of farm or construction vehicle, but how about a UPS truck, the truck he calls “the present truck”

Having two boys I have a list of ideas for your next vehicle! Diesel train engine ( all you ever find is steam engine patterns), race car, dump truck, tow truck, digger, or semi truck. Love your fire engine! Thanks for the chance to win a copy of the magazine and a mug!

Might be easier on you if you start with A and work throught the alphabet…ambulance, army tank, bus, bike, carriage, cart, dump truck…….

The fire truck is really cute. When my son was young his favorite vehicle was the space shuttle, I think it could be a great block. But you couldn’t go wrong with a block featuring anything from Tonka!

Love the Fire Engine! Love the Mug, too! I would think a Train Caboose would be good as they don’t put them on the end of trains anymore – guess that makes them obsolete. Or maybe an antique car?
Since my husband is a 911 emergency dispatcher, the first thing I thought of was a police car to go with the fire truck. What little boy doesn’t like police cars?

When my boys were little, they always loved trucks with parts that moved so they could operate them. So, consider any variation of a truck! Thanks for your fire engine pattern.

I asked my 4yo what block should be next and he said a Lion. I explained it should be another vehicle/truck/construction etc… and he answered a fire person. So in his mind this should have one block fire truck and another block a fireman holding the hose.
I say a cop car, an ambulance or a camo tanker truck! So much fun!!

How fun! I can think of a number of boys who would enjoy Rescue No. 1. Also, in any farming community, tractors are the big delight for any guy – young and old. One school in the area even has a “drive your tractor to school day”.

Since we are still seeing power co. vehicles after Hurricane Sandy around here. I vote for a Power Co. vehicle with a cherry picker on top! Thanks to them we have POWER! (For sewing of course).

Ambulance – the little boys at a preschool opposite my place used to hang over the defence when the patient transport ambulance arrive to pick me to take me into the local hospital speech clinic.
Hmm, that is a tough one. Do you want to continue service vehicles? If so, how about a police car? Ambulance? Or a different kind of Fire Truck?
Me personally, I would love to see a farming tractor. Of course, that isn’t a service vehicle. But, I do love tractors.

If you stick to rescue vehicles I’d say a police car or ambulance. For variety mix it up with a police helicopter.

As a farming girl I would have to throw in a tractor next, but perhaps a police car would suit the theme, or maybe a slow old school bus getting in the way of the fire engine?!
How about a car. Using various colors and prints, the car could be made into a police car, a taxicab, a race car, or even a showstopping sports car.

My Mom lives in Jamestown, CA. Her house is across from the Sierra Railroad and there is always a train giving rides. We have a great newphew in the family now and he just loves the train. A John Deere tractor or Caterpillar bull dozer
I made a truck quilt for my son – started it when he was two, finished when he was 11. He really liked the bulldozer blocks and the dumptruck. There was also a skidloader that he really liked too!

I love the fire truck! As a firefighter’s wife and quilter, and mother of two little guys, I’m always looking for fire trucks and boy quilts. I’m almost ready to cut out the quilt I’m making for my husband’s bed at the fire station.

Love this!! I have been looking for a ‘fireman’ block for my 5 yr old nephew. His daddy also my baby brother is a rescue EMS firefighter. This will go nicely with the ‘fireman’ bed of his.

I have a hubby who is a big truck driver (18 wheels) I have yet to see a really good truck block.
I am so happy to find this block. My son n law is a fireman. My son also but right now is in the army. His son loves to go with his Uncle to the fire station (when they do get to come home to visit)to see the trucks. this will be a block my grandson will love. And we will have to make one for Uncle Jake to use at the fire station.

The fire engine is really clever. I’d suggest a tank or personnel carrier, something military for the kids of those serving. On the other side of things an ambulance or police car maybe a helicopter. I know what ever you come up with it will be darling. Thank you for a chance to win.

In keeping with the rescue theme, I’d suggest a helicopter. The kids get really excited when they see one of the coastguard rescue helicopters in action.
Dump truck, or even a construction crane–it could be lifting all different kinds of things.
How about a dump trunk or a cement mixer? I too had boys and often wished that there were more male oriented fabrics and quilts made for them. They are teenagers now, and at times I struggle with patterns and fabrics that don’t look too feminine.
A bicycle?? Or a tricycle??
A dump truck or dump truck with “pup” would be an awesome block for a boy, or an 18 wheeler. My husband drives a truck and saves the “trading cards” from the weigh scales for me to send to my grandson, and he loves collecting the cards with pictures of big trucks on them.
