  53. I learned that those people who say, “There is nothing new under the Sun” are WRONG. Every hop to the next blog shows me something new or a new way of looking at something. Especially fun to see is how fabrics I would NEVER have in my stash look so delightful when handled by an artist with a totally different perspective from mine.

    First of all, I love Cat Nip. So cute. I would love to make a quilt covered in those squares. What I’ve learned? Well, I’ve learned that I might be interested in learning to make a quilt. I’ve never made a quilt block, much less an entire quilt. But after seeing so many beautiful blocks, and seeing how changing the fabric can make such a huge difference in the design, I think it would be a lot of fun to try.

    The use of color and different techniques, some I have seen, but then some I haven’t. Fabric choices are so important, it can change the whole look of a block, just by changing or moving colors around, the block can look so very different! Love the paper piecing blocks, they satisfy my OCD for perfection. :o )

    There are SO many different quilt blocks and then so many variations that can further be changed just by a fabric change or twist of a block or even just a portion of the block is what I’ve learned.

    Oh and the biggest thing I’ve learned? If I start sewing the second I am done posting this comment I could never get stitch all the quilt blocks that I love in my lifetime, not to mention ALL the quilt blocks I have seen in the past two years. LOL

    I am loving the blog tour so far. I have learned that there are a lot of different and creative ways to use the blocks to make such interesting quilts. I also love the designers that show different color ways. It is interesting to see how the block changes with the different materials used and how you lay them out. To me it is fascinating to see how they lay out so differently with just a change of colors.

    I have learned that there are many talented people in the quilting world. The ideas they express through their designs are impressive and make me wish I had more time to get out of my box and try some thing different. I have been enjoying the tour, thank you!

    I have learned that it is a good thing this magazine comes out when it does and not on a monthly basis! 1) I am spending mega time online checking out the amazing bloggers – and not just for the current posts, but curiousity drives me further into previous posts and patterns, etc. and I don’t have that much time… 2)the inspiration can be overwhelming when every single block begs to be made!

    About a month ago, for a friend, I bought Wayne Kollinger’s book on designing quilt patterns. I learned a lot, reading it first myself, and putting its “what if” questions to work. Soon I will actually give it to my friend…
    And so his Indian Cabins is my favorite block!

    I love the block Cat Nip by Dianne Gardner. It could be made with a lot of beautiful fun fabrics. I loved the checkered star blocked.
    The most important thing I have learned with this tour is the simplest block can be made into a beautiful quilt. It is all about the placement of the block and the colors chosen to work with in the quilt. I also learned that there is a lot of quilters who are multi talented and thankful that they share with others on the internet as well as in the magazine. I am glad that the magazine offers beginning blocks to complex blocks. It has something for all.

    There really is always something new to learn when visiting different blogs. Choosing the best fabric so seams don’t unravel is sort of a given but we often forget when choosing fabric because we also have a tendency to look in our pocketbooks. Plan slowly and smartly often works.
