Introducing Julie Dunn: A Back to School Sewer for QM

Several months ago, we announced on Facebook that we were looking for QM readers to work on a one-time project for us. It’s been my pleasure to work with the eight women we selected as the Back to School Sewing Team. I’m happy to introduce them to you this week during the QM Back to School Party.

Today I’m pleased to introduce Julie Dunn from Borrego Springs, California.

Julie penned a few thoughts for QP readers:

I felt very fortunate to be chosen for this project. At first I was afraid to get too excited because I thought the email was really for someone else. Once a second email came, I knew I was in.

Then a wave of panic set in. ‘What have I gotten myself into?’

Julie fussy cut some of the La Dee Da motifs in her Frame by Frame quilt.

When I saw my fabric and the pattern, I decided that some of the small squares should be fussy cut to highlight the fabric prints.

Because of this, strip piecing was not an option. I also paid attention to placing the larger squares so the prints would flow through the quilt.

My design wall was very helpful in making sure everything stayed right side up.

The Back to School Quilt Party project turned out to be a great experience, from the anticipation of seeing the fabric to the satisfaction of finishing the quilt.
