July/August 2012 Quiltmaker
The cover quilt on the July/August issue of Quiltmaker is made from a fabric line called Flea Market Fancy by Denyse Schmidt for FreeSpirit.
You might remember this line from several years back. A lot of people loved its retro feel. In fact they loved it so much, they clamored—and FreeSpirit decided to reprint it.
We were very excited at International Quilt Market when we got to meet and chat with Denyse Schmidt.

Designer Denyse Schmidt shows off the July/August issue of Quiltmaker with Editor-in-Chief June Dudley.
She was happy to see the cover quilt, which we named Flea Market Flowers. It was designed by Gayla Nielsen from South Jordan, Utah. Gayla is mom to 100 Blocks designer Judi Madsen of Green Fairy Quilts.
This is a throw-size quilt measuring 60″ x 84″. The piecing is easy, and the applique is fused and then blanket stitched by machine. A blanket stitch looks like this:
Here’s a machine blanket stitch used on Kay Mackenzie’s block in Volume 5 of Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks.

If Flea Market Flowers is your cup of tea, we have kits available for a limited time.
Snatch one up because we don’t think they’ll last!

Your quilts/crafts are so fantastic! It’s so nice to find other quilters all around the world!
