One of the most inventive blocks we’ve ever selected for Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks is My Easter Dress, designed by Sonja Callaghan and appearing in 100 Blocks Volume 3. Sonja has since designed several quilts for us and we’re always delighted with her playful sense of whimsy.

My Easter Dress by Sonja Callaghan
Late last year we learned of a small group of quilters from Louisiana who were using this block for a group quilt.
We asked if they’d be willing to share their blocks and their finished My Easter Dress quilt with Quilty Pleasures readers.
These are the happy results, just in time for Easter 2012.
The group meets at member Melissa’s home in Moss Bluff, Louisiana.
In addition to Moss Bluff, the members are from West Lake, Sulphur and Lake Charles, Louisiana.
They call themselves the Stitch Cackle Quilt Circle.
Each person made her own version of the block, on which her name was embroidered.
Aren’t these just so much fun?! I love Cathy’s rickrack! And the little Mary Janes in so many lovely colors!
The blocks were joined into one quilt, which will hang in the group’s “quilting room” at Melissa’s house.
It just makes me happy to look at these women. Imagine the friendships they have built.
What a great block. What a fun quilt! What great inspiration to share your passion for quilting with other like-minded people.
Many thanks to the Louisiana ladies for sharing their work with us. And a very Happy Easter from Quiltmaker!

What a wonderful blogpost to read today and what a fun group project!
Loved seeing this project!
Great blocks and the ladies from my home town!
From a non=quilter, but an admirer of good works, I see creative minds coming together and enjoying their quilting, bringing friends together for a lilifetime.
I don’t remember any Easter dresses (yes, I had them but have forgotten). What I do remember is a little white purse and matching hat when I was 7? 8? Very stiff, coarse lace–a place to keep my quarter for the collection plate. ;}
Aunt Sharie you look great!!, The Blocks are very cool. Your Nephew Pat
Hi Diane, We’re agreed on your many onversatiobs. It *is* about the members, first and foremost. Our guild recently began a quilt buddy’ program and members were invited to add their name to a list with any skill or technique she feels comfortable sharing with another. Those who wish to learn that may contact that member for a lesson. Experienced ladies are able to pass on the information, leaving their legacy, those new to the technique are encouraged to grow, and both ladies get to work with another. It is a great idea from our new guild president. I agree that guilds must be cordial to guest speakers, they need to have great and varied programs that encourage members to attend, and I completely agree that all members should contribute in some way. Not only because it distributes the workload (which is huge!) but because that is what makes it YOUR guild! When you serve on a committee or make quilts to donate to charity you impact the lives of others in a positive way. Give that gift to yourself there is truly no better feeling. ~~Lisa
