Just expanding to electric software for quilting. To date I’ve been learning how to free-motion quilt (mostly smaller items). I’m in my second year of quilting and love it! I have now done 3 quilts on my friends longarm machine and am beginning to get a little more comfortable doing so. So far I have just done basically meandering and tryed a few spirals, but do not know what else to try. I am just finishing my first quilt. OMG! I didn’t realize it was so hard to do. I have drawn and sketched my entire life and figured that I could very easily machine quilt. Ha! The only quilting I do so far is ‘in the ditch’. I tried free motion once before and ran my finger under the needle. By natural reaction, I pulled my finger back. I ended up snapping the needle while in my finger and it had to be bent to get out. Still a little gun shy but know that I don’t want to keep paying someone else to quilt my work and I am just now starting to get back into my projects as they have been stored for the past couple of years due to a very nasty divorce. The man in my life is so supportive of my getting back to my quilting and I am excited to have the support and cheerleader behind me that I can do anything.

Oh yes! I am a fairly new quilter and would love to have more motifs.
I belong to a small quilting club that makes quilts and other textiles for our local hospital Auxilliary. The Auxilliary then turns their profits over to the hospital for various projects and equipment. Many of the ladies get their blankets quilted professionally for some of these quilts but that adds additional expense to their already generous gifts. The book you are offering as a giveaway would be a valuable asset to share amongst the group. This November, approximately 350 sewn items were turned over to the Auxilliary for their giftshop. At an annual hospital fundraising gala, the guild also donates a quilt for the live auction portion of the evening. They are an extremely dedicated and hard working group of ladies.

just what I need to quilt several tops
I have three “winding ways” or “wheels of mystery…or as some students call wheel of misery”. i love all those curves, did you know it takes 12 curved pieces of make a square block?!!!
now that I have three of these tops done, I am at a quandry as how to quilt them, this book might solve the delema.
This would be a great motivation to put some variety into finishing my quilted projects!

I am still a hand quilter, and my current project is a sampler, so each block requires new thinking and planning. I try to mix interesting designs where they will show versus the routine straight lines on complicated fabrics. I have always loved the quilting designs in Quiltmaker magazine and how they were used on quilts. I am always looking for new designs….this would be great!
I LOVE having several editions of QM quilting designs! I really like tracing the patterns onto clear mylar then placing them over a photo of my quilts to audition the motifs to find just the right ones! I love to mix and match. Then I can enlarge them and trace them onto my quilt and can hand or machine quilt them (I do both)! In just the past few months I’ve been able to finish 6 quilts with the help of QM quilting designs—these are tops that have been sitting around for 2 to 5 years and now they are DONE! Now before I start a quilt I look at the designs to see what will work or which I want to feature then there shouldn’t be any delay in completing new projects!
When will this be available for retail markets? Or, is it already? If so, where can we buy it?

This book sounds great….I am a member of a quilting guild in the boonies of Northern Minnesota. One of our biggest challenges is finishing off a quilt, whether to stitch in the ditch or try something more creative. This sounds like it would be a great carrot to dangle in front of my fellow quilters as a challenge to do more free motion quilting.

I have a quilting frame with a mid-arm machine, and a large “practice” quilt loaded up and ready to quilt. I haven’t touched it though (it’s been months), because I’m afraid, I think. Afraid I’ll stink at it, and afraid I won’t have a clue what kind of designs to put on it! I have been quilting off and on for several years now. However, I always seem to actually do my hand quilting the same way, by quilting 1/4″ from the pieced seams. I think all my quilts are beautiful, however, I would like to be able to get more creative and inspired with my hand quilting.

I love Quiltmaker, not only for some of the great patterns and information, but because you always give quilting ideas. I have roughly 21 quilt tops that I would like to quilt myself, but I am not sure what quilt design to use to “GIVE” the quilt that special wow factor that just sets off the whole piece. Quilting Motifs would be a great inspiration.
