It’s a block challenge! In conjunction with Quiltmaker’s 30th anniversary in 2012, we invite you to use our free pattern to make an updated version of Sweethearts’ Chain.
Designed by Christine N. Brown, the current Editor-in-Chief of American Quilter magazine, it first ran in QM’s 1985 Fall/Winter issue.
Look closely at the block and you’ll see the evidence—in the form of mauve, dusty blue and other softly-colored calicoes of that era. My, how fabric has changed!
You’re invited to make a Sweethearts’ Chain block only or preferably, to turn it into any kind of quilt project. Then snap a photo and share it using one of these options:
• Email the photo and your name to us: editor@quiltmaker.com
• Post your photo on Quiltmaker’s Facebook page
• Add the photo to your own blog or website and share the link in the comments below
Some photos may be chosen for publication or used here on Quilty Pleasures, the staff blog of Quiltmaker. We’d like to see your photos by Feb. 1, 2012. We can’t wait to see what you come up with!

I would love to win the book “Quilting Motifs” as I am envious of all who have mastered the art of machine quilting. SewSerri
I would Love to make a block for this. I love to quilt and sew during the cold winters in WI.
I have an idea for this block, although it may not be quite what one is looking for.
This challenge will give me a chance to get back to quilting and provide a Valentine Day gift for my daughter. One of her favorite moyifs is the heart. I would also like to win a copy of the book “Quilting Motifs”. I can always use reference books for my quilting library.
You produced some first rate elements there. I seemed online for the challenge and positioned the majority of people will go with each other with with your web site.
