You know how some people are “hat people”? You know, those people who look really cute in casual ball caps, fancy Easter hats or some other stylish hat? Not me. I’ve never been able to pull off wearing a hat very well. I don’t know if it’s the shape of my head or face, but I never seem to look right in them. That is until now. This is the kind of hat I can pull off!
Check out my new block, Hat’s Off, from Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks Vol. 4. I’m very pleased with how it turned out and it was quick to piece. You may remember my previous blocks from Vol. 2 and Vol. 3…
…so a hat just seemed natural to complete my ensemble! Now that I’m all decked out in my finest, it looks like I’m ready for a night on the town! Wouldn’t these blocks make a cute quilt for the fashionista in your life? Who would you make them for?
Giveaway: Leave a comment, and tell me who is the fashionista in your life by 12 noon MST on Wednesday 11/9 for a chance to win a copy of 100 Blocks Volume 4 of your very own. The randomly selected winner is #16 Karyn Ashley-Smith and just for fun I randomly selected another winner, #89 Kathy (QuiltMonkey)! Thank you to everyone for all of your great comments!

Well, the “fashionista” that comes to mind is my grandmother. She loved to get “gussied” up and something about that hat reminds me of her. Those shoes too. But making it for her would be difficult. She passed away in 1988. But I could remember her.
I love all these blocks, I love to see the women of Paris, how do they do it!? They could go out wearing just a plastic bin liner and still look fabulous!!
I am just loving this hat block!! You are so clever. I used to wear hats in my younger days. I have such fond memories of entertaining my mom in the stores trying them all on. I’m not the fashion bug in my family any longer, however. These days, I go for comfort and warmth. I passed the title on to my daughter!
Love the hat – I’m in the same boat, except for a pillbox (thank you Jackie O) – if they’d only come back in fashion…. My fashionista is my 11-year old great-niece. She has style down flat! She’s also very attuned to color. When she was very little her favorite colors were aquamarine (not just aqua), peach and rainbow! Then her colors became “pink and black, with a touch of green”! Now she’s leaning to navy and lime green!
I have a niece who is only eight but she seems destined to be a fashionista! I think she changes clothes five or six times a day — which makes her mom a little crazy.
My granddaughter loves her clothes!
The fashionista in our family is my sister Heather – she loves to design and coordinate anything and anyone! thanks!
My friend Cait is the fashionista in my group! She is always in the know about styles and what looks good. thanks!
My daughter is the fashionista in my life! she has 30 years on me.
Definitely my little sister! She taught me to step outside my boring “normal” and try some vintage and some bling and some sexy…. not that I carried it off nearly as well as she does, but I did develop a much more interesting fashion sense because of her!!!
My fashionista is definitely my teenage daughter. She has a mature style for a young person and always looks put together. Thanks for the chance to win a 100 Blocks magazine!
Judy W
*I* am the fashionista, as is my BFF. We are both known for wearing stilettos wherever we go. I’m working on a pair of wall hangings for us right now using your shoes pattern and a resized version of the purse for borders. I hope to win/get a copy of this in time to add a hat on the back as a label!
Good morning everyone!!!!, hmmmm let me think…, the fashionista I met, is my niece, she thinks she’s a singer, and she wears lip gloss, she changes her clothes often, because her shows!!!, when you likes a song you must learn that song too, because she puts you to sing with her, ahhhh forgot to mention her purses and the hats she has to match, ohhhh girls aren’t they the sweetest?, lol
I loved the pocketbooks last time, now I see the hats and shoes! I love your ideas!
Pingback: 100 Blocks Blog Tour: Day 2 Giveaway | Quilty Pleasures Blog
I remember the debate last blog tour on what would be the best accessory to finish it off. LOVE the hat! I now have a 10 month old daughter….I’m sure by the time I finished a quilt for her, she would be into the fashionista stage….if not, I have a TON of nieces (8 that have given my daughter clothes to last her until she’s 5 or so!)
Thank you!
My eleven year old is my fastionista. She LOVES to shop! I know what you mean about wearing a hat…I can’t seem to pull it off either!
My little sister is the fashionista in my life. She’s a sucker for a great bag and a good pair of shoes! I’m looking forward to the magazine, thanks for the chance to win a copy!
What a cute followup to your previous blocks. I love it.
My husband would say i am the Fashionista in my life. I do love a good pair of shoes! I think it stems from all the crazy ’80′s fashion that I grew up with as a teenager. I had shoes to match every outfit – mint green leather, purple suede- you name it! Thanks for the chance to win!
Definitely my daughter. She is so good with style. AND she LOVES shoes
The fashionista in my life is my girlfriend. She loves to shop and buy new purses and shoes. She even wears a hat on special occasions.
The “Fashionista” would be my daughter, Kelly. Love your pieced blocks, especially the shoes. They are hard to get right.
I’m the only Fashionista in my house, formerly anyway! When I was working in corporate life shoes and purses filled my walk in closet(s). That’s why I’ve loved your quilt blocks so much, it’s a chance to play with them again.
I love it. You are so talented. Thanks for the chance to win a copy of the magazine. Hugs.
Love the blocks.
The fashionista in my life would be my very good friend who is transitioning at this time.
I’d have to say my Great Grandma Maude. Even thou she was born in 1889, she was like a grandma to me. Church AND grocery shopping required a hat. She’d say God sees you in both places.
Oh my Gosh! – Those are so cute all together….My fashionista is my 5 yr old grand daughter, she would love a quilt made with these block…..Oh and they would have to contain pink and purple fabrics…LOL
I come from a long line of fashionistas. I know I have cared too much at times about what I’m wearing, but for the most part it is fun. Love the hat block.
My daughter is the one who keeps up to date with the fashion trends. I don’t much care, just so I have comfortable, clean clothes
My Swedish Granddaughter is our Fashionista!! She always goes for the style…exactly…even on halloween:) She hates getting stains on her clothes or getting dirty. We love her to death. She is learning to sew/quilt each time she visits from Sweden.
My fashionista is Anni-Riley. She is my son’s step sister on his dad’s side. We are a strange family. I love her like she is my own. She has more drama than any super star in Hollywood and loves to shop. This is so her quilt.
I adore hats;but, I rarely wear them. My mother was a fashionista in her youth. My Grandmother always dressed to the nines! That is a cute block!
The fashionista in my family is my daughter’s American Girl doll….so maybe it is really my daughter, since she is the one who sews and dresses Hannah. Great blocks!!
The fashionista in my family? Not quite sure. I think it is most in the family. On myself, I ask for the kids advice, but on other people I can dish out what looks good or not, as I am the seamstress doing alterations on other peoples clothing in the family.
My daughter, Sara, is the fashionista in my life. She loves to try the new trends. She has a thing for purses and shoes. I got a kick out of the leopard print shoes that she bought this summer. I should sew her a hat like your hat quilt block, wouldn’t that be fun!
Granddaughter, C, is my fashionista. Love your hat block. I’m new to quilting and I also love your heels and purse. I can really see a quilt made for C using these blocks. Sooo cute!
Definitely my daughter #1. She loves to shop, loves shoes and handbags. Definitely her. Thanks for the chance.
My fashionistas would be a set of twins in college. They love to “dress up” and have fun to relieve stress. The dorm gals all end having fun getting goofy! The photos go on their computers often! We are blessed with their enthusiasm!
my mom is the “fashionista” of the family. She has to co-ordinate her hat, shoes, purse and jewelry to go with whatever outfit every single day. She just re-did her bedroom and it now looks like a boutique! She have over 100 hats displayed on various stands, shelves, etc. She even has those foam heads with wigs so she can display her favorites! She told me last week she’s starting to desire collecting umbrella’s to match!
My Mother is my fashionista. She is always pulled together with matching everything and tops it all off with the perfect hat!
My Son is our fashionista! He has Chuck Taylor’s to match everything.
Well, the “fashionista” that comes to mind are two sets of niece/grandniece. So particular about having the newest clothes, shoes, jewelry, and hairdos. They didn’t get it from my side of the family though! LOL we are practical and wear what passes the “is it clean” test. Please enter me into the drawing. Your purse, shoes, and hat blocks are fun!
shhh dont tell! It’s me me me I have a passion for Shoes and Bags can’t pull off the hat tho, darn would love to wear them plan on making each of your blocks and frame them for my bedroom walls what a neat grouping that will be
I would have to make those for some of the ladies in the nursing home I stitch quilts for thru World of Charity Stitching. Can you imagine the smile it would bring to their faces as they sit in their wheelchairs and reminisce about days gone by.
My youngest daughter is my fashionista. She dose not follow trends but has a lovely sense of colour and design. I love these blocks. The shoes are amazing and so is the bag. All the blocks will make a lovely wall quilt for a young girl. I plan to make a bag per block for my daughter. Thank you for such lovely blocks.
Our fashionista is my sister and she’s teaching her grand daughter to follow in her footsteps. Together, they’re quite a pair!
Definitely my sister-in-law. She always looks so classily stylish, even when she’s wearing grubby jeans and working in the yard. I wish it came as easily for me.
As far as hats go and I’m sure you’ll get a laugh out of this, the only person in my family or that I even know is my husband. He’s got a hat for every day of the week, every season including hunting season (that alone is 8 different hats) and of course one for every holiday. I do shoes and purses but he wins hands down when it comes to hats. Didn’t know they made that many styles for men.
My daughter-in-law is the fashionista in our family. She makes amazing crocheted hats.
I have problems with wearing hats, too. I think it’s that I look better with my hair showing:) My niece Anne Marie, is the fashionata in our family. She is eleven. I agree your hat, shoes and purse blocks would make the cutest quilt. We need one more block to make a cute girls’ room wallhanging:) Thanks so much for this blog tour! It’s one that I look forward to and visit as many blogs as I can.
My mother was always the fashionista in my life. She worked at a local department store and always had an eye for what looked best on her and on us! I always took her along when I was shopping for outfits for special occasions. I told her that she should have her own business, being a personal shopper!
My mother always dressed in classic styles. I remember the hats she wore to church back in the 60s. With gloves, of course.
Fashion training received from two ladies I work with. One who taught me to coordinate my golf outfits and the other for formal attire as well as cruise wear. Love the hats and shoe squares.
My daughter is the fashionista. She’s tried to help me, but doesn’t always have the patience!
My grandaughter would love this. Actually 3 grandaughters. They all love playing dress up. But especially Avery. Her first books to start reading were the “Fancy Nancy” series. That was when she was in kindergarten. She has read and reread each on more times than I can count. I’ve also already been informed there are some new books out.
Her room theme is Paris, Eifle Tower, fashion…..this would be perfect for her.
She is truly a fashionista. There is only one other that is worse than her, and that would be Fancy Nancy herself. Avery even makes her own fashions.
My mother-in-law loves new shoes and a great new bag, though I don’t know that I’ve ever seen her wear a hat.
My grandmother RIP, was the fashionista in my life. Great block btw!!!!
The fashionista in my life is my beloved daughter-in-law of almost 20 years, Kelly. She dresses so well, chooses colors and styles with flair and all on a budget. She’s taught me to look for the specials. I love to chose quilting fabric with her as her color choices and vision is supberb.
My 19 yo old daughter adopted from Russia is definitely the fashionista of our family. She always accuses me of dressing like an old lady, but the styles made for the younger gals look a bit ridiculous on my 60+ body! Hats have never been my thing-the one I remember from my childhood that I liked best was a net with little bows on it my mon would wear to church. There, but not overwhelming.
My sister is the family’s fashionista, although my daughter is quite good too. As neither quilts I’m sure they”d love a quilt with these blocks.
My granddaughter (now 10) has always been my favorite fashionista! She loves to shop for clothes, change clothes numerous times and day, and has a strong sense of fashion and what looks good on her. I love to buy for her!
The “hat” fashionista in my life is my husband! He has accumulated dozens of them. Really cute block!
I would have to say that would be my 3 year old granddaughter Grace. When she gets out her trunk full of lacy dresses, boas, gloves and tiaras she is a princess. She’s going to be a handful when she figures out how to shop for clothes.
The fashionista in my life is my 85 year old mother. She always dresses up when she leaves the house. Her shoes and purses always match. Me?….not so much.
I do like your new hat block to go with the purse and shoes! I completes the ensemble.
Linda in Southern Illinois
My niece Rylee is the fashionista in the family…she just doesn’t have the budget but thinks that she does…pity the boy that latches on to her…LOL
Love the magazine…maybe I should make her a designer quilt with the patterns from all the issues that I have
My 6 year old neice is the fashion queen in our family. Before vacation this year her mom came down to find one bathing suit laid out for each day. Her comment ‘well mom you cant wear the same thing to the beach, it is a VACATION’ cracked us all up.
The fashionista in my life is my husband. He has a good eye for fashion.
I like your clothing theme for your blocks.
I love the hat block. I wear a hat to block the sun. Can’t wait to make it. The 3 together will be perfect for my granddaughters’ room.
My dear friend Diane and her daughters Shelly and Melissa are the fashionistas in my life. Diane has the elan to wear hats at church, and Shelly has followed behind her with even more flair. Melissa tops us all, as a fashion designer. Me? I wear muck boots and many layers and tip my hat to them (usually a knitted one to keep my head warm).
Perfect accessory to your previous blocks. Wonder what you’re pondering for the next Volume. The fashionista in my life would have to be my Sister-in-Law Barbara. She’s always dressed to the nines from her head to her toes. Both of her daughters (twins Leah and Sabrina) carry on their Mom’s talent…I wonder if Leah’s daughter Natasha at 5 months will learn from her Mom too? Natasha is already wearing the cutest hats and shoes! Sandi
My fashion gal is my best girlfriend Sue. She is always dressed wonderfully! Kd
How cute are those blocks! The hat definitely completes the trio! Would love the hat directions and would hope to win 100 Blocks Vol. 4 so I’d be sure of directions!!
I’m not a hat person either, but yours is very cute. My friend Kathleen is my fashion consultant–she can always advise me on the right pair of shoes, and will also tell me when I’ve made a bad fashion choice. Thanks for the chance to win a copy of this 100 blocks issue!
Hi my Aunt Bell was the fashionetta in my life, she owned a Costomology school in our town, when I was young she would always take me to buy new cloths, and my hair was always pretty….but thats been awhile, now my granddaughter tell me how to dress. thanks love your blocks, and for a glance at that memory……
It’s definitely my youngest daughter! She looks great in almost anything (including hats!), and she has a pair of shoes or boots to go with every outfit. She takes me shopping and sometimes even “hands-me-up” the things she doesn’t wear any more.
my daughter is the fashionista in my life, she is currently in a retro phase, finding alot of stuff in the goodwill shop to modernize.
My daughter is much more fashionable than I am! Thank you for the block, and the three years together would make a great wall hanging!
I just don’t really know any fashionistas. Sorry.
I love your hat, bag and shoes blocks. With 3 boys, we don’t really have any fashionatas in our house. Although the elder one does like to know if what he is wearing looks okay. Although even if I tell him something doesn’t match, he’ll ignore me!
The fashionista in my life would be my mom. She’s 72 years old now, and she still won’t leave the house without her hair quaffed, face made up, and her best dress on. She even gets dressed up just to hang out at home. Anyhow, thanks for the giveaway!
M y grandma would definitely be the fashionista in my life. She always dresses to the occasion, has her hair *done* once a week at the beauty parlor, her purse matches her shoes, and never wears white after Labor Day.
My daughter is definitely the fashionista in our household. I’m good with the same old jeans and sneakers, but she has more shoes and clothes than you can shake a stick at. I must admit, she does have fabulous style!
My DD! These blocks are too cute! Thanks for the giveaway!
You don’t see women wearing hats anymore, around here anyway. But my granddaughters like to be “in style” with everything else, shoes, etc.
I don’t have one in my life at present…..but I remember, as a child, a friend of my mom’s owned the local dress shop and she had part of a wall in her shop devoted to hats, big ones, flowered ones, ones with veils, odd shaped ones, ones with big, big brims. I can recall watching for her to come into church on Sunday, especially on Easter. We could count on her to choose the showiest one from her shop. Somehow she managed to pull it off! I will never forget Mrs. Marnell.
My younger daughter is the fashionista of our household . . . she would love a quilt with these blocks!
My daughter is my ‘fashionista’ Thanks for sharing with us.
I think the fashionista in my life has to be my former roommate. She could wear anything and it would look good on her. I’ll have to do like you and quilt my fashion!
My sister-in-law can wear almost anything and look fashionable. Me… no.
My sister has always been the fashionista in our family. Upside of that is fabulous hand-me-downs! Thanks for a chance – love your block.
My DD is our own fashionista~ her brother goes to her for advice. LOL I love the shoe blocks. How fun!
My daughter is such a fashionista and I’m sure she’ll love this block! I am so hoping to win a copy of this magazine!
The hat block is absolutely adorable!! What a cute quilt that would make! My current fashionista right now would have to be my granddaughters, Chelsea and Kaley!! They both love clothes and look so cute in them!!
my daughter is definetely the fashionista in our family.
I would say it is my son. He loves to shop for himself! And he has a nice style too!
My co-worker is definitely a fashionista! We take students on outings and she’ll be wearing 4 inch heels to events I can’t fathom tackling in anything but hiking boots. (I can absolutely picture her wearing the shoes in the v.2 quilt block!)
Great block! I’m with you, this is the only kind of hat I can pull off as well. hehe. My Fashionista is my daughter. Even from when she was little, three years old she was always changing her clothes. Several different outfits everyday. She told us she was in a fashion parade. I know she’d love all these blocks together in a quilt.
Thanks for the giveaway and a chance to win.
usairdoll(at)gmail(dot)com
Love your block, all your blocks. Too cute. Ok, I guess I have to be the fashionista. lol. I’m not a big one, maybe one in training. I like trying the new styles, new assessories. Thanks for a chance to win.
THE SHOES….OMG…..a quilt if not a pillow for my future DIL who ADORES shoes and COACH brand handbags!
The fashionista in my life is a 12 YO going on 25! She needs to learn some terms though because she keeps asking me for BLANKETS and not QUILTS! lol
I have 2 fashionistas – my adult daughters Lisa and Karen. They are always surprising me with their new styles.
My sister would be the fashionista–has to everything just right and always has up-to-date clothes and new shoes with matching accessories.
what a cute block! The fashionista in my life would be my daughter…she’s way more interested in what’s trending than I…still sitting here in my jeans and t-shirts after almost 50 years, lol.
The fashionista in my family would be both of my daughters. They have different styles, but both are very fashionable. I love the hat block!
Very cute blocks! I never had a good fashion sense, but did enjoy wearing hats in my youth. My cousins were not necessarily fashionistas, but they were always very fashionable and I truly enjoyed receiving their hand-me-downs when I was growing up.
My fashionista would be my 6 year old granddaughter and she gets it from her mom.
My daughter would love the shoes and purse blocks. She has tons of both. Great ensemble (sp?) Thank you for sharing your lovely work
Love those blocks! I need to make them in to a wallhanging for my mother in law. She was quite the fashionista when she was younger and still likes to dress up!
The fashionista in my family is my 84 year old Mom. She always leaves the house with full makeup, dressed in her animal print and high heel shoes. She has a lot of bling around her neck, on her fingers and around her wrist. She visits the beauty shop each week to get her hair done and sleeps on a satin pillowcase. She has every closet in her house filled with beautiful clothes and shoes. She is battling breast cancer right now, but she is so courageous and doing great.
Love the cute blocks you made!
gailxs@hotmail.com
The Fashionistas in my life are my two girls. They help to keep me looking ‘young’. These blocks would be so cute in a throw for any Fashionista!
My 30 year old daughter is totally the fashionista in my life. She always has the just right outfit and definitely always the right shoes. She loves the guilts I make but I know she would love those shoes in a quilt. Where do I get Volume 2? I have Volume 3 and LOVE it! I would love to have Volume 4. Thanks for the great blog!
My “fashionista” could only be my new daughter-in-law. She has a great love for all things that are high in the heel, short in the length and fun on the head, she can wear a hat with no problem. In fact, I would love to make her a quilt using these elements. Thanks for a chance to win ::0
My granddaughter (soon to be 15 yrs. old) is the fashionista in my life. She wears the latest styles with fun and flare. Thanks for the give a way.
Well, she’s actually not around any longer but my Mom was from the South and had an entire collection of hats, matching purses and shoes. From her age group, Southern women always wanted to be sure they were dressed with all those things matching like that and even though she married and move North, she still carried on the Southern gal traditions.
But, I have a good friend who is actually the age a daughter of mine would be if I had one and she’s a true fashionista. She would love a quilt with all your blocks, especially the shoes! She’s a HUGE shoe fashionista. The new block this year of the hat is awesome. Now I’m wondering what you’ll come up with for next year.
The fashionista who would love a quilt with these blocks is my daughter. Beautiful blocks!
What a cute hat block! I love hats, but sadly have been told by my husband that I don’t look that great in one. An honest man– : ). My fashionista is my oldest daughter. She looks great in anything tho.
Cute blocks ~ my fashionista is ‘thrift shop comfy’ for sewing.
My family loves the fashions in quilts and I enjoy stitching.
hubby’s boss is the fashonista we all love – she’s a hoot!
It would have to be my daughter, she loves to shop and these blocks would make a fun quilt for her.
Debbie
Love the blocks, the fashionista”s in my life are my oldest daughter and her oldest daughter..
Love your blocks. The fashionista in my life would be my 5 year old granddaughter. She loves loves loves shoes and all things pretty. She will love these blocks too.
My daughter takes the cake. She can shop the Goodwill and come home with great finds.
These blocks are just too cute!
They are so cute. I just wish I had a fashion designer lol . I don’t have much fashion sense. Thank you for the giveaway.
Luckily in my life I don’t have one. Both of my girls just want to look nice but don’t need to live high on the hog. I love all of your blocks together. They will make a great quilt when put all together.
My youngest daughter is the fashionista. I could make her a whole quilt of just your shoe block and it wouldn’t represent half of her closet!
I would have to make a “fashionista” quilt for my oldest sister! She is the dressiest out of the 5 sisters and she would definitely enjoy a new quilt. I might also think about making one for my Mother-in-law!
All your blocks are so clever! Two of my three daughters are fashionistas – so fun to see what they come up with to wear. My third daughter is more like me – comfortable is more important than looks…..
my little grand daughter has a Bday coming up, how cute would it be to do a combo of blocks in her favorite colors. cw
I don’t have a fashionista – that’s kind of sad, don’t you think?
My second and third Grand-daughters are my Fashionistas! I get to make them twirly dresses for Christmas! Cute Blocks! how lucky are you to do what you love…
Gotta be Jessie, a little girl I know. SHe keeps up on the fashion and even though she isn’t yet 10, she feels free to offer constructive criticism and advice to one and all..
My 13 year old Grandaughter. She recently showed me various ways to wear a scarf….um, really?
No question, it’s my daughter. When she lived at home it was like living with the fashion police.
What cute designs………just right for my granddaughter’s quilt!
My daughter is the fashionista in my life!!
I wear hats all the time, but the people who look really good in them are my grands. At 4, they love hats and look truly great in them. At every quilt show i always try on the hats and look for the quilt lady. I even took a hat making class and learned to make one (notice one). I guess i should take the class again. I LOVE hats – big, small, purple or plain
If only I had a fashionista. I need someone to pull me out of my rut. But alas, there really isn’t one. My sister does her best, but 3000 miles between us makes her job tough
I love the hats. It would make a cute wall hanging. with some bling.
Believe it or not, as I was growing up in the 60s, my mother and her friends always wore hats to church, and often they wore gloves, too. Maybe a foundation with fancy pants ladies’ gloves could be next! Your sense of design is wonderful. The little purses are so precious!
all these blocks would make a really cute quilt.
