Of all the quilt blocks in the big, wide world of quilting, the Friendship Star is my favorite. It’s a simple block, not terribly spectacular, but I guess just the feeling of it makes me all warm and fuzzy. It was fun to play around with different sizes to see what I could come up for my 100 Blocks, Volume 4 block.
While I was making this block, I played around with a few ideas for colors and settings. I love the solid white background, so I rotated the blocks and came up with this:
Then, of course, when you think of stars you also think of the night sky. So I tried a darker background with yellow and gold stars:
I really love both of these combinations. I’ve collected fabric for both of them, but can’t decide which to do first!
Since the name of my block is Best Friends, I’ll tell you quick about my best friend. You know how you have friends, and you have friends. And even among your friends, you have a Heart-Friend. I have a Heart-Friend, her name is Mary Ann and she lives in Washington, where I used to live. A few years ago I moved to Arkansas then Colorado, but it felt like I was moving CLEAR across the world from my best friend. I miss her EVERY day. We talk regularly, email lots, and visit each other a few times a year. Even if we haven’t talked for a day or a week, we can pick up where we left off without missing a beat. We often have the same thoughts on the same day and we even signed up for the same block-of-the-month on the very same day without talking to each other first! No matter how many miles are between us, she’ll always be my best friend.
Giveaway: Leave a comment, and tell me who your best friend is by 12 noon MST on Thursday 11/10 for a chance to win a copy of 100 Blocks Volume 4 of your very own.
I loved loved LOVED reading your comments about your best friends – friends, sisters, moms, husbands – you made me all tingly and happy. The randomly selected winner is #22 Kristen Hamilton and just for fun I randomly selected another winner, #155 Marcia Wright, for her comment about how she, her sister and her mother always joke about having “ESPN”. Being a total ESPN football fanatic, that totally cracked me up! Thank you to everyone for all of your great comments!
Happy blog hopping!

Pingback: 100 Blocks Blog Tour: Day 3 Giveaway | Quilty Pleasures Blog
My best friend and I were each others maids of honour at our weddings, we have been friends since high school. Even when we haven’t seen each other for ages, it doesn’t feel like it when we chat!
My best friend at the moment is a fellow knitter and crafter. Unfortunately we’ve been too busy recently to see much of eachother, but we’re still keeping in touch by email.
First off, my vote would be for the night sky version if we were voting, that is !! My best friend and I are similar to what you described with your best friend. Several years ago she moved from Washington to Ohio. I’d been sick for a couple months and she flew out to make sure I was getting the attention I needed. She probably saved my life, it turned out I’m diabetic and wouldn’t have gotten better without her intervention. She’s back in Washington now. We’ve been through so many things, infidelities, divorce, I don’t think there’s anything that will split us permanently.
My best friend is Faith Gantt, she has been my friend since I was born 56 years ago., her mother was the one who taught us to Crochet Knit, and Sew, she had us doing that at age 4, we went to the same Church and she lived across the street, everyday we were together, She is married with 4 children but they are grone and gone, infact we
went to Micheals last night;……love her,,,…..thanks I love that block I will have to make her something from it…….thanks
My best friend is someone I met at work. She doesn’t quilt but she loves everything I make.
Love the circular pattern 4 blocks create when set together.
My best best friend is my husband. My best quilting friend is a former co-worker (I’m retired, she’s not). I also love friendship star blocks & I really love your block. Thanks for the chance to win.
my best friend i have known since high school… long time ago! lol We do sewing, crafting and geneaology trips together and love every moment of being together creating! This fall we made pear pies together for our families! thanks for the giveaway and congrats on a wonderful block!
Friends are really precious. My best friend lives far away! But thanks to internet we are in regular contact. This summer, after 10 years not seeing her we met again and it was like 10 years have never passed. Just like we had seen each other just the day before.
My best friend is Tess. She’s always there for me, always listens to everything I have to say, never complains even if I’m rather stupid at times, makes me take lots of walks, and she always wags her tail so happily everytime she sees me.
My husband is my best friend, the one who is always there for me and makes me laugh even when I’m feeling awful. We’ve been married 12 years now and still finding new adventures, like camping, to explore together.
My best girlfriend is Dawn, a mom with kids near in age to my own…we can gripe about kids who wake at 5:30 am, the morning after you decided to stay up late reading…or kids who are so picky they hardly eat anything. Most of the time our kids are all around us playing, but sometimes we get to have a cup of tea all by ourselves.
My best friend is my husband. I am blessed to have him in my life.
I would have to go with the hubby as best, however having joined a guild many years ago, and am fortunate to have many quilty best friends.
My best friends are a group from my church who adopted me as a new member many years ago and have shared all of our ups and downs together.
Cliche as it is, my husband is my best friend. That’s why I signed up to spend a lifetime with him!
My best friend is Peggy. I am teaching her to sew and will evently teach her how to quilt. She is always so witty and loves life and I thats why I love being around her.
My best friend is my husband!
How cool. I love the circle of stars. Thanks for the chance to win a copy of the magazine. Hugs
My husband is my best friend.
My dear hubby is my best friend. He believes in me. He supports me. He wants to spend time with me. Thanks for providing this time to reflect!
My best friend is my daughter Jennifer. She not only is a great person to share a conversation with but she also shares my love a sewing. Ok, mostly she just loves the fabric to make bags and purses. Someday I want a stash just like she has.
My best friend is someone I’ve known since we were 12; we became best friends in high school more than 25 years ago. She moved across the country for college and stayed there; I’ve moved so many times but always within about 400 miles from where we grew up. We’ve each been part of the other’s weddings (and divorces) and we try to see each other once a year or two, even if I just fly to where she is on business and we have a girls’ weekend. It’s pretty amazing that our friendship has stood the test of time, especially since her parents didn’t like me in high school and tried to “break us up” and now they think I’m one of the best influences in her life! Ha ha! I’m actually making her a quilt based on blocks from past 100 Blocks issues (it will be the third I’ve made her – she’s very crafty but doesn’t sew) so I’m looking forward to getting this copy too. Thanks for the chance to win!
My best friend is probably my Mom. She makes crafts and sews like I do, so we are able to give each other tips on how to do things. She’s also always there and we talk all the time.
Thanks for the chance to win!
My best friend is my husband.
My best friend is MaryLee, who I only met a few years ago. It was one of those feelings where you knew you were meant to be lifelong friends. I totally believe in better late than never and wouldn’t want to go a day without her!
My best friend is a fellow quilter and I recently moved 500 kilometers away from her. We stay in contact regularly and she is coming to visit this Friday – wouldn’t it be great to be able to tell her I won;)! Thanks for the chance to win!
My best friend is a fellow quilter I met at a quilting bee for charity when I was just learning to quilt about 8 years ago. We both love scrap quilts, and I really like the friendship star one you have in different colors. I will have to do something like that, it’s now on my list of gotta -do-someday- in scraps!
My heart friend is Lin. And we live thousands of miles apart. She is in Ohio, and I am in Florida. But we do try to get together at least a couple of times a year. Whether I visit her, or she comes to FL, or we meet someplace like Paducah. We have the same kind of friendship as you do with yours. We pick right up where we left off. It’s hard to have a distance Heart Friend, BUT I am so glad that I do!!
My BFF is Jeanne. We have been friends for over 55 years. Just hard to put that in print. I will be 65 in a few days. Older than dirt. lol
Love your Best Friends block.
Well, my best friend is my mom. She has been my quilting buddy for years… love your block I am thinking it will be good for quilts of valor…. lovely
My best friend is Linda. we went to grammer school together eventhough we changed cities and schools we still were in the same school. then we were in jr high and high school together eventhough i moved in and out of town. now we live 1200 miles apart but she is still bff and always will be. she is the BEST
My best friend is Lorena–she and I have been quilting buddies for years and years. She and I even read quilt magazines the same way: back to front (how weird is that??). I think she even has better recall of what’s in my stash than I do! I love the way you set these blocks on either dark or light background. Thanks for the chance to win 100 Blocks.
My best friend is also a quilter and like you said we can pick up anytime and we feel like we never missed a beat!
I followed my husband’s military career all over the world and at each duty location I made a bestfriend. Seriously….they become family! So with that said…Shirley, Sharon, Claire and Kimberly….your are the BEST!
My best friend set up and arranged my first date with my husband. Not only that, she went with us! The three of us had a great time. 30+ years later, we exchange stories about our grown children and wonderful husbands. We even retired to the same town, 10 hours away from where we began our friendship and raised our families.
Very cool design! My best friend for over 50 years is Jolene. We haven’t seen each other for nearly 25 years, and we aren’t really good about frequent communication, but whenever we do chat (usually via email), we can just talk about anything and there is no difficulty trying to re-establish our friendship because it is so firm. She is a mom to 12 children, and has worked a paper route at very early hours (2 am) nearly all of her married life (~30 years). she is someone I admire, and I’d love to make a quilt for her using your Friendship block.
What a great quilt your block will make.
I have known my best friend for 20 years. Our kids grew up together. Unfortunately we don’t live in the same town but we try to meet each other twice a year.
My best friend is actually an online friend that I’ve “known” for over 15 years. We have never met in real life! But, we are planning to do so someday! The Starry night version is really cool and would most likely fit us best!
Thank you for a chance to win.
My best friend is Karen from grade school. We have since moved several states away from each other but still remain best friends. If I win this magazine, I’ll make a small wall hanging using your block for her!
my best friend is my husband. he is the rock i can always count on to be there whenever i need him. love that block!
My best friend is Cheryl. She lives half-way across the country, too. She made her first quilt recently.
My best friend is my husbond. My other best friend is Iren. She is also a quilter. Hugs Jofrid
My best friend’s story of her life’s so amazing, she has been married for 15 years with no kids… one day she got pregnant, that time she was high risk pregnancy, she had a gorgeous boy, I was worried about her, but my lips were sealed, I didn’t want to call the bad luck…, then SAME date one year later…, she had another gorgeous boy, her second child, that’s so sweet they got birthday-not-in-the-same-year birthday boys, I’m the godmother of their first child. About a month ago, they lived a devasting situation which made live so far away from me
, we comunicate often, but she’s there for safety and it certainly, relieves me
My best friend is Linda. We had a lot of good times together as well as bad times. I will always love her and will always have a place in my heart for her. She was a good lady and a special friend.
I have enjoyed your tour and all of the talented designers and all of their creativity.
Can’t wait to have my own Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks, Volume 4 for myself.
Sandi T.
My best friend passed away in September and I miss him every day.
My best friend is also Mary Anne. She talked me into taking a quilt class with her many years ago and we are still quilting together! Your friendship stars are so cute and I love the suggestions for different settings! Thanks.
Love the friendship star.
I would say that right now, my best friend is one of my daughters. I have had different best friends over the years, often due more to circumstances (stage in life, family dynamics, common interests….). My daughter and I share a very strong life of sewing and she has taken up quilting in recent times. We spend quite a bit of time together and I feel sometimes she understands me pretty well.
My best friend is Linda, who I have know since we were in junior high school. We have been there for each other at a lot of life changing moments. 50 years is a long time to keep in touch.
this block is just super adorable! I love the way the points of the stars contrast the round shape that 4 together makes. It’s those little nuances in quilt design that make people say “oh I like this!” but they’re not sure why. Total winner!
My best friend, well actually, it’s my ex! So I guess I’m in the market–are you available Paula?☺
No best friend, but I am close to family. I love how you expanded on the friendship star design. It’s one of my favorite blocks, too.
My best friend is Angela. We met in 1980 but discovered we went to the same grade school as kids (her dad was in the Air Force and my dad was in road construction building roads on the base where they were stationed)! We live on opposite coasts now, but every time we call it’s like we just saw each other. She’s an amazing artist with a wild, quirky, fun personality. I’m even planning on getting on a plane next year to finally get out to see her on the west coast!
My best friend? my dear husband of course!!
JoAnna is my bestest friend. Often, work and family keep us from talking often but when we do, it’s for hours and such a special time. No matter how much time goes by between visits, we connect as if we talked all the time.
My husband is my best friend.
I have many BEST friends. I have collected at least one from each place I have lived. It would be hard to choose Just one! My sister could be my best friend, we can go days without talking and one minute on the phone it’s like it was just yesterday. I have two Daughters who also could be my best friends, they are only a phone call away. I love when they call and I hear my sweet grandchildren’s voices in the background! My quilting Buddy loves Friendship Stars. These stars are Beautiful!
My best friend lives 8 hrs away, but over the last 7 years she’s been just at the other end of the line, whether on the phone or email. When we were transfered out of W TX to Houston we both cried, but knew it didn’t really matter.
Without a doubt – Angela DeSimone of Albany New York. We met many years ago in a cold hockey rink watching our sons play hockey. They have since grown up & moved on. Unfortunately they have grown apart but our friendship is one for the ages. LOVE YOU ANGELA!
By the way – when I saw your block & what you had done with it I immediately started singing “Twinkle twinkle little star” It is my 18 – month old granddaughter’s favorite song & now I know what I’m going to make her for Christmas!
Thank you!
My best friend is Sue, a fashionista, gracious host, and generous gal. Gotta love her! Thanks for the great giveaway. Kd ~ http://www.KdQuilts.com
My best friend is Josie. We have been friends since pre-school. We live across the country from each other, really have nothing in common any more and can still pick up where we left off when we phone and talk for hours.
I met my best friend when our children were born and we’ve supported each other through some awful times – she’s the first person I turn to with good or bad news
My best friend is someone who met a couple of years ago. What connected us was our mutual passion – longarm quilting. Even though we haven’t know each other forever – it sure feels like it – we can share anything with each other.
My best friend is my cousin. We spent a lot of time together growing up, then as teenagers, we moved in different circles. I got married and moved away, she went to college 7 states away…. we’d see each other on holidays, but that was about it….then, I’m not sure what happened…we got really close again! We talk just about every day. We live 2 states away, our kids age-ranges are all over the place….but there is no doubt that we are best buds. It’s so funny when we find out how much we have in common (we chalk it up to the way we were raised…but no one else in our family does that…..)
Thanks for such a great question! LOVE your block…and my vote is for the multi-colored
My best friend is my husband! I love Friendship stars!
My best friend is my husband who recently took up painting so we now share artistic adventures in our lives.
My best friend would have to be my mom!!!! I have had several best friends from years past but they are not as constant as my mom. She is the one that I shop with, talk with, laugh with and cry with.
23 years ago I left NY and my best girl friend and moved to Washington state. As much as I miss her, I LOVE Washington and don’t want to ever leave.
Love the stars block! My husband is my best friend. No doubt about it
I have 3 best friends. My husband and my 2 labradors. All love me unconditionally.
i tested blocks for vol 4 but didn’t get the honor of working on yours. wish I had, i love this block. I would use it an an alt block to get great secondary lines on a top.
I have it marked in my mag as a TO DO. love the looks with solids. good job! cw
I am blessed to have several ‘best’ friends, including my husband of 45 years, some from high school, and some who live close by.
My best quilting friend is Sharon, who is moving 1/2 way across the country from me next month…we will be like you and your BFF, and have already planned a couple of trips together for next year…retreats here in GA, and then of course the Quiltmaker event in August!
I love what you have done with the Friendship Star block, it is also one of my favs as well. Yet another quilt to add to the very long list. And I like both the light and dark versions, sigh.
My best friend is Helen. We met in university, and have stayed close ever since. We both quilt, so that is one of the ways we stay in touch now, as family and life keep us from seeing each other as much as we’d like.
I have several friends that I consider the ‘best’ and I started to kindergarten with one of them over 50 yrs. ago. We don’t live close together but we do keep in touch but not as much as we should.
My best friend is my husband but when I look at that block I think of holding the hands of my grandchildren. I have them every day and they are (as they would put it) “my bestest friend!”.
My best friend is a wonderful quilter I met 15 years ago at a quilt guild meeting. I was brand new to quilting and living in a new city and she took me under her wing immediately and showed me the ropes and made sure I kept on quilting and she became as close to me as my two sisters (who are also my best friends) So, I guess, I have three best friends! I am a lucky person.
My best friend is a relatively new addition to my life, my bff Jessica, who’ve I met 6 years ago. Our friendship blossomed quite quickly and she’s a dear, kinds friend. However, my bestest friend is my sister, Nancy. We have a genetic connection that will rival any other friendships I have or may have in the future. Thanks!
My husband Mark is my best friend! He is so good to me.
My best friend is my college roommate. Our lives have taken different paths, but when we get a chance to connect, it is just like we’ve never been apart!
Love what you have done to the star block. Very cool! I like both versions, light and dark. I and don’t know which you should make first, since I would have a hard time deciding too. As for the best friend, that would be my daughter. She’s a such a good kid and so much fun to be around.
First, I would vote for the setting with the blue background, it looks like a starry night. One of my best friends lives in another country. I miss her dearly. Like you, it doesn’t matter if we haven’t talked in awhile, we easily pick up right where we left off.
She has had a difficult time lately but has a strength that is inspiration to me. I’m currently making her a quilt, I will have to try to incorporate your block into it.
Best friends, an extremely important part of our lives who know the best and worst of ourselves and I’m happy to say that the ones I made in middle and high school are still my besties (military brat). As a wife and mother my husband and daughter are also included in my inner circle. I love the multi-colored stars on the white background, it really allows them to shine.
I can’t choose between Bev and Suzanne. They are both quitting friends and they both are fun to travel with.
My moms my best friend. Love your block Paula, and miss you on your blog now that youre a full time working woman, not as much time to play with quilty stuff!
I love the stars! My best friend is my husband of 40 years! Good friends have come and gone but he’s always there for me.
My best friend named Clara is someone I originally met when I lived in New Mexico.
thanks – I like your block and the settings you showed!
My best friend is my sewing and quilting friend Sue.
My best friend is Kathie. We have giggled our way through a lot of adventures.
My best friend is my next door neighbor. I can tell her anything, seek advice, get help when I need it. She’s the best part of buying this house!!
My best friend is someone I have known for 0ver 20 years. We met at work and have been each other’s bridesmaids, and have been through thick and thin together.
My best friends are Kathy and Debbie – I feel like I could tell them anything, and they wouldn’t judge me or my crazy ideas. I am not a confider very often, but when I do it just spills out and they both will listen to me with open minds. Having best friends is an amazing thing… I know… I went for a long time without one…
Every friend is my best friend. My oldest friend is Mary – we’ve been friends since high school days. My next oldest friend is Cecilia – we have so much in common! Love your block – that friendship star has always been a favorite.
My best friend is Charlotte even though she moved 150 miles away, we try to get together periodically and talk quilts.
I have 3 bff’s : Janet, Bernie, and Connie. Our friendships go back over 40 years. We don’t see each other very often since we’re scattered across the country, but we stay in contact. I know if I ever needed something from any one of them, all I would have to do is ask. Of course, I would do the same for them.
Your friendship star block would be the perfect block to use in making a wall hanging for each of my friends.
Linda in Southern Illinois
My best friend is a girl I’ve known since 7th grade. My nickname for her is Nettie. I am pulling her along with me into the sewing circle.
I like your colorful design with the white background much better than the other one, Paula. I don’t have any one best friend. I have many friends, and they are all the best!
Hi, my best friend is Mandy. She is a single mom and raising a boy on her own while still looking after her mum who suffers from parkinsons . She does beautiful quilting and we often get together for a good old chat about future projects we would love to do. She is 47 now and she has slight handicap as she is deaf along with her whole family. That does not really hold her back at all. I have known mher for about 15 years as we met through work. we live in new zealand.
I absolutely love this block. It really touched my heart. I lost my dearest friend eight years ago, to leukemia. I believe I’ll make a quilt from this pattern, honoring a friendship that is still part of every day of my life, though we’re not together.
My best friend is Linda. She doesn’t understand my quilting obsession but she puts up with me anyway. Love your block and the way it forms circles when blocks are put together.
I met my best friend Daniela in Dublin several years ago, but we are italians and in our country we are quite neighbor as we live only 40 Km from each other
I am so excited to get the magazine and start working.
I have several “best” friends. Each is just as important, but contribute to a different part of my life. I love the star block and think it would be neat to make this one.
My best friend is definitely my husband, John.
I have someone I still consider my best friend. We’ve known each other since we were about 6 yrs old. We met in Kindergarten and were best friends all the way through school and beyond. She’s actually my oldest sons’ Godmother. The sad part is that she moved a very long way from here a number of years ago and now I only see her about once every 10 yrs or so and she’s so busy with her kids that I rarely hear from her. I really do miss her. She’s the only one who has ever known my every thought and I hers. I almost moved to the same city she lived after my divorce but with three children all under the age of 5 I was afraid to make that kind of move without a job waiting for me so I never did go. Now I’m glad I didn’t because had I moved, I never would have met the man I am married to now so at least I’m happy. I just wish I could be in touch with her more often.
I met my best friend at university. She is named Celine, like me and we have lots of parallels in our life – outside our control. Our kids were born 3 months apart, we were married the same year, we had lots of great and terrible times in our life that we have been able to share (like losing a parent from the same type of cancer 6 months apart etc). We are always delighted to see each others and can speak for hours on the phone. She is a real jewel and I love her.
My BFF is Zoe. She has been a friend since I was 5. Our lives drifted apart after High School, then we found each other after the birth of her first child and my third. We found our lives had taken similar paths and it was so fun to reconnect. After that we have kept in touch. Even though she is hundreds of miles away, she continues to be one I think of when the phrase “Best Friends” is mentioned.

PS Congratulations on making THE 100!! I’d love to win a copy.
My bestie is a friend from high school. She’s been there for me through the ups & downs through high school, college, first love (last one, too). We’re able to see each other about once every few months, depending on our work schedules, but it’s usually filled with laughter, shopping and cocktails.
My best friend is my husband. I love that I can share things with him that I cannot tell others (they’d think I was crazy LOL). He totally gets me.
I love this block and particularly think the difference sizes of stars is lovely. I prefer the white background but both are fantastic. My best friend is Dolores. I love it that we can share anything with each other.
My best friend is Holly who is a treasure for a friend as she is always there for me.
I love star blocks! My best friend also happens to be my next door neighbor…how awesome is that for me! We just have to yell over the fence to each other in the summer! She shares my passion for primitive decorating, and folk art style quilts!
I guess it would be Darlena, she lives in a different state, but I know that if I needed anything at all, she’d be here in a minute. And she knows the same thing.
My best friend is my husband, he is always there for me! Thanks for the chance, I love the way the secondary pattern circles on the quilt, great imaginative design!
My hubby is best friend. Jesus is closer.
My best friend is my husband. He is always the first one I invite to go with me to dinner, a concert, and yes, even quilt shows!
Paula, Friendship Star is one that always brings to mind that bond you write about. I’ve made the block several times for celebrations where a signature is requested or an inspirational thought was expressed. I assembled a BOM swap for a charity event similar to your blue & yellow version with green (http://www.kwiltnkats.com/Fundraisers/2009%20BAE%20Systems%20Quilters%20AmericaSupportYou,%20Friendship%20Star.jpg). I added some borders to expand its size a bit (and to use all the blocks made). It is so versatile…and it does make you happy! Kerry tops my list of friends. Fortunately we live close and see one another on a regular basis. Most Saturdays we sew together; how neat is that! Sorry Mary Ann is miles away…but it sounds like distance can’t keep the two of you apart! Sandi
My bestest friend is Regina. A couple of weeks ago, I shopped online and sent her a message that I bought a shirt. She was actually wearing the SAME shirt! And we live states away as well.
I absolutely ADORE STARS. My BFF is Catherine…..
Congrats on being in the latest issue! LOVE IT!
My best friend’s name is Toni. We met through work a little over 39 years ago. We share the same wedding anniversary date, but a year apart. I’ll have been married 40 years in May and she will celebrate her 39th anniversary. My family moved away about 30 years ago, but we still stay in touch.
I love stars! I just had to do a Friendship Star for both of my little boys’ crib quilts, and one in our Block of the Month club at my local Bernina using Sylvia’s Bridal Sampler from Jennifer Chiaverini.
My best friend is Jessica. She needed a new sewing machine so I found her a used one, just like mine, at our Bernina store, and I took the classes with her to help her learn how to use it….and learned some things I never knew before about my machine! Then we made pj’s together, and then made a quilt together for our neighbor and friend who was dying of cancer. We finished it and cried together as we presented the quilt to our friend and her family….and she was able to enjoy it for just another week and a half before she died. What a sweet moment in time for friends!
My best friend is Nancy-she is my boss’s wife and we are pretty opposite when it comes to background! She is from the north-New York and I am from the South-Tennessee! She has short, blonde hair and I have very long, dark hair! We get along so well! We love the same things! She’s my bestie!!
Oh, yeah, and I received a resubscription offer…to give a subscription for free to someone else. So I renewed my subscription to QM, and gave the gift subscription for my Christmas gift to my best friend Jessica! I can’t wait to keep quilting and sewing with my friend!
Beautiful block! I LOVE stars. My best friend is Sarah. She is so different from me and yet we are besties.
Best friend is my husband, best girlfriend is Deb, she just moved to another state. We’ve been emailing a lot and talking on the phone. It still makes me sad. I miss her.
My best friend is Cori, we get along so well, think alike and can have an argument and still stay friends. Thanks.
I sew in the early afternoon during nap time, usually. If my husband works late then I will sew at that time as well.
My best (girl)friend is Christine. She takes me as I am but also encourages me to be my best self. She is awesome!
I have had multiple “best” friends at different stages of my life, Right now I think my younger sister is that to me. We did not get along as teens, but as we get older we grow closer. (And,as my hair and hers gets greyer, we even are beginning to look more alike than ever!)
Great block and Love the name. I’ve had my Best Friend, Lauri for over 41 years. Yikes!! hehe I knew it had been awhile. We’ve been bbfs since fourth grade and believe it or not, we’ve *never* had a fight. We live in different states now and are both grandmas and like you, can pick up the phone after a week, etc. and just pick up right where we left off. Thanks for reminding me what a Blessing Lauri has been to me.
Thanks for the giveaway and a chance to win.

My very best friend lives in MN her name is Dawn. I live all the way in AZ and I know what you mean when you say you can pick up right where you left off.
I am blessed to have two best friends…my mom and my daughter! I do love your block…always have liked star blocks, and your use of three in one block is a great idea!
My best friend is a non- quilter, but we still have lots in common. It would be great if she took up quilting, but I don’t see that happening! Judy W
My best friend is my sister Betty. We live 1100 miles apart but we still talk almost every day. She knits but doesn’t sew, and I sew/quilt but can’t knit. Thanks for the chance to win.
My best friend is my DH.
My best friend is my sister. I did make her daughter a quilt from quilt maker named best friends. Thanks for the chance to win.
Your block is awesome! My best friend is also named Mary Ann. We started out as sisters-in-law about 33 years ago; then she and my brother split but we decided to keep our friendship. We even share the same birthday and are both quilters. We always go to the state quilt show together and have a great time. I can’t imagine life without friends.
Congratulations on being in volume 4 !!
My best friend is Lynn, who lives in NC and I live in MO. We met on a yahoo quilt group and became friends when she lived in Chicago. We don’t get together often, but when we do it is just like we had seen each other the day before. So nice to have a friend like that!
My bets friend for 22 years and counting is my husband. He is always telling people about my habit of picking up fabric for a particular quilt without a picture or notes on hand. He enjoys looking at the tops that I have finished and in the process of quilting.
Most of all I can tell him anything that crosses my mind and accepts or makes stray comments back.
My best friend is Chuck, he started out as an online friend and we tried dating and just decided that we would be friends and 9 years later it is going strong. There is not a thing that either of us can say or do that the would make us stop caring or being there. We have been through births and deaths of family and friends and have traveled extensively together. We are there for each other personally and professionally. I had surgery 5 years ago and woke up a paraplegic and he never left me and was there when my family and other so called friends were none existent. Chuck is my rock and the man that makes my life complete as long as we don’t have to live together. LOL
I can’t wait to get Vol #4 thanks for a chance to get it.
My best friend is Aeleen. We have been best friends all our lives. We were born one week apart and have been thru all life’s ups and downs together. I am looking forward to this issue of 100 blocks. Maybe I will pick some of my favorites to make a quilt for my best friend.
My best friend is Carolyn and stars are her favorites. We are quilting buddies and have shared a lot of good times togather and some not so good. We try to be there for each other when ever we can. I don’t know what I would do without her friendship.
My best friend is Maryam. We met about a year and a half ago in an online quilt group. We have not met in person yet, but we feel more like sisters than just best friends.
No doubt about it, my husband is my best friend.

I grew up with my best friend, we were always there for each other and even though we don’t see each other, we are always there for each other when we need each other.

My best friend is my husband. I have sewn (as my job) most of my life. Now I have lots of free time . He never minds when I’m in my room sewing.
My best friend is Dottie across the road. She is 82 (I am 56). We are sew similar in sew many ways and yet sew different in others. I love her to bits and will miss her terribly when she goes. Thanks for the chance, Dianne
I love your block, Paula. Another winner. My best friend and I have been thru alot together and luckily still live in the same town so a week rarely goes by that we don’t get together. She’s the easiest person to talk to and we tell each other everything-and I do mean everything!
laura, my bff, moved into my neighborhood 65 years … we started first grade together. since school, we have mostly lived apart, phoning, now emailing, still close. neither of us is up to traveling anymore; we feel that now, when we chitchat, we’ll not see each other again.
I’ve been best friends with Ruby since I was 13 yrs old and that was 49 yrs ago.
My best friend is my husband, Paul. After 8.5 years, we still talk about everything..and I mean everything. He supports my every venture, he listens intently without interruption, and he always has the best advice. Even when we travel and are in the car, whether it be for 1 hour or 6…we never tire of talking to each other.
My best friend and I have been friends since the 4th grade. We are now 64 years old and STILL best friends.
What a beautiful quilt, I love pinwheels. Thank you for the giveaway .
Love your block!
My best friend is half way across the country from where I live now but I have many friends here to enjoy a stitching life.
My best friend of all time is my husband. My best female friend is Vicki who I still consider my friend wven though she lives in Florida and I have lived in Georgia now for 11 years now. No matter how much time has passed since we talked last, we just pick up as if it were just yesterday that we talked last.
My best friends are my sister and in many ways, my mother. We seem to think the same thoughts at the same time and talk in shorthand – yet know exactly what is meant. We say we have ESPN, which helps to confuse male members of the family when watching football. Thanks for the chance to win. My favorite combination is the darker background with the yellow, and perhaps some other color of stars just to throw in something unexpected.
Paula, your block works into such a great quilt! My best friend is Lynn, and her favorite color combo is blue and yellow.
My best friend would be Kristine. Years ago we met when my oldest and her 2nd or 3rd went to the same preschool together. Afterward we followed a course together on how to make a quilted jacket. I still have mine to this day, but it’s totally worn out. The friendship, however, has not.
I am very proud to say that my best friend is Marian. She is a “Guidance Aide” at an elementary school. She’s always understanding and comforting if I have a problem. I try to do the same for her. She’s a grandparent and I try to spoil that grandson of hers, I have no grandchildren. Simply put, Marian is platinum!
My best friend is Tricia even though we live so far apart.
Friendship star is my all time favorite block too. And I just love your variation and I really love the quilt setting! I’ve added it to my ToDo list. My best friend is Connie. She’s 86 & I’m 63. Connie has been my friend for over 40 years. She is also my quilting mentor. I think I need to make a Best Friends mini just for her! Thanks for the inspiration & thanks for the chance to win Vol 4.
I moved away from my best girlfriend. It’s a good thing I have a cel with free long distance.
My daughter-in-law!
My best friends are my daughters (4) and my sisters (5).
My best friend for 20 years has been my husband
Love your best friends block! Friendship star was the first quilt block I ever made, and I love your variation of it! My best friend is my hubby–even though he doesn’t get the quilting thing, he takes the time to admire my latest accomplishments, and he got up early most mornings last summer to train with me as I trained for a triathlon, as well as bringing the kids up early on the morning of to cheer me and the other women on!
Lovers , come and go. But a friend is forever!
not spectacular? of course it is~lots of personality options. keep up the good work
My best friend is my husband. He’s there to support me in anything I do and takes very good care of me. He’s even the one who got me so involved in quilting by shopping for a new sewing machine for me several years without me knowing about it. Don’t know what I’d do without him!
I’d say my best friend is my Husband
I loved your best friend story. Your block settings really show off the potential of this design! I’m thinking scrappy quilt, and soon.
My best friend and I connect through email (yea for modern technology). We met when we worked at the same place. Although we get busy with our schedules, we’re able to pick up right where we left off….(even when I get behind in my emails to her)!
My best friend is from high school. We live in different cities but still connect via phone. Now that we both have young kids & our own businesses, we don’t talk very often and haven’t seen each other in many years. Love your star blocks!
I love the stars!!! I can think of many different colorways and layouts for these!!! I can’t wait to make this one! Congrats on being in the magazine!!!
Paula, Thank you for the copy of QM’s 100 Blocks volume 4! Looking forward to making some of these blocks into a new quilt design.
I know it sounds soppy but my BFF is my hubby!!!! He’s always there for me, even takes me to quilty places on holidays and buys little quilty nicky knacks whenever he sees them. He’s my rock!
I met my best friend on my first day of school. she sat in front of me and wore a red sweater. She was worldly and comforted crying me. I had never been away from home.
That was 60 years ago and we are still close. Our children grew up together.
My best friends are my daughters!
I think I missed the give away cut off but I still wanted to comment. I LOVE YOUR BLOCK! I can see doing so many different quilts with this block. So cool!
Such a sweet block!
I love the colorful version
