Colorado Capitol Quilt Show

Here in Colorado, our statewide guild, Colorado Quilting Council, sponsors an exhibit at the state capitol in odd-numbered years; a tradition that began in 1989. This exhibit is a showcase for Colorado quilters and quilts. It is a spectacular sight and this year featured 270 wonderful quilts.

A fun fact about our beloved capitol: Finished in 1908, the Gold Dome was created using 200 ounces of pure gold leaf.

Paula and I visited the exhibit one afternoon last week and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The quilts are hung from every available space all throughout the three floors of the building. These pictures show what it’s like to look up from the first floor.

I also have great admiration for Hawaiian applique quilts (mostly because I will probably never make one!).

The description of this one says she started it in 1975 and finished it in 1992. It has over 2000 squares in it!

This one is made from lots and lots of feedsacks. I wonder how long it took to make that!?

The bright colors in this one caught my eye.

We also wanted to see the quilt I had on display. It was my first time entering a quilt and I was very excited to see it hanging. It is an original design that was created to recognize financial donors to the Women’s Crisis & Family Outreach Center’s capital campaign to build a new shelter for victims of domestic violence.
