There’s so much exciting information to share with you about the QM Scrap Squad’s most recent project! We’ll show you a little at a time over the next few weeks.
This quilt appears in the brand-new July/August issue of Quiltmaker, which appears at quilt shops and newsstands by June 7.

Spinout, designed by Barbara Cline. Sewn by Denise Starck. Quilted by Donna Smith. Fabric: Art Gallery Fabrics.
The Scrap Squad’s assignment was to interpret in scrappy language a quilt called Spinout, designed by Barbara Cline. They came through with flying colors, and several who weren’t excited about the foundation piecing even devised an alternate piecing method. All of that in the days to come!
Barbara is the author of Star Struck Quilts, published by C&T Publishing. (By the way, this book is also available as an ebook from C&T. Cool!)
On her personal blog, Barbara is known as quiltingal. She also contributes to a blog with her two sisters who are quilters; it’s called Three Mennonite Quilting Sisters.
Barbara designs some pretty amazing quilts!
I asked her what she enjoys most about quilt design.
“Figuring out ways to create a quilt from what is in my mind and what I have on paper. Seeing the finished quilt is a great part of the enjoyment.”
If she could give quilters just one piece of advice, it would be this: “Never be in a hurry. When you are in a hurry, you are not as neat and precise. Precision is sewwwww important.” When I see the intricacy of Barbara’s designs, I can see why precision is critical.
Barbara was enthused about the Scrap Squad creating her design in scrappy color schemes, and when you see the Scrap Squad quilts over the coming days, I think you will be too!

I’m a Scrap Squad member and Barbara’s Star Struck Quilts book but didn’t make the connection until today. I’m anxious to try another of her patterns!!!

The quilt you chose for the cover of your book is stunning! I just love the colors, but when I think of it, they are the colors of my alma mater, Washington State University.
