It’s that time again…I’m happy to share our latest “Quilty Causes” spotlight with you!
For the July/August issue of Quiltmaker magazine, I had the awesome pleasure of getting to know the Thank You Quilters from Texas. Started in 2008, by Audrey Winters, Thank You Quilters is an organization that makes and collects quilts, afghans and pillowcases for the soldiers at Fort Hood in Texas.
Thank You Quilters has quickly grown from 4 members to a large group of quilters who now meet twice a month to sew at Ready to Sew Bernina in Cedar Park, Texas. Here, with the help of many community contributors including the Chisholm Trail Quilt Guild, they make quilts for the soldiers.
Since January 2008, the Thank You Quilters has delivered more than 471 quilts and afghans, 227 pillowcases and 70 stuffed animals to soldiers and their families. With each quarterly delivery of 76 quilts and 200 pillowcases, soldiers are greeted with quilts, hugs and gratitude from the volunteers who visit.
The Thank You Quilters have volunteers available to assemble and longarm quilt, so they are happy to accept quilt blocks and tops with or without backing. They also accept donations of red, white, blue, patriotic and army themed fabric. If you would like to help, visit thankyouquilters.org. These quilters are truly inspiring, aren’t they?
