Secret Window Christmas

Hello! It’s my turn to share the fabrics that I picked for my version of the “Secret Window” mystery quilt that is being featured in the May/June ’11 Quiltmaker magazine.

But first, I must say that I had no intention of participating in this project. I had decided that I wasn’t going to take on anything new because I had plenty of projects in the works. But. BUT! Then I found this fabric by Terri Degenkolb of Whimsicals, Winterberry Lane by Red Rooster, and I was smitten.

Because you see, I love Whimsicals. Love love love her. I have every one of her books (most of them autographed) and most of her fabric, and when I used to go to Quilt Market for my own business I always had to stop by her booth (stalk her) several times a day (more stalking) because she had such an amazing booth ( with even more amazing quilts and things (more stalking) and I just couldn’t get enough. She probably thought I was crazy, asking for autographs and pictures, but she was so nice and friendly (even if I scared her), and I hoped if I hung out long enough (stalking her) that some of her amazing talent and style would rub off on me.

So that’s why I broke my no-new-project-commitment, because it was Whimsicals. How could I pass that up? I could not.

As you can see, Winterberry Lane is wonderfully Christmasy, without being “too”, if you know what I mean. These wonderful fabrics could live in my house, anywhere, anytime, and feel right at home.

Since we get to work on our mystery quilts way ahead of you, wonderful readers, let me assure you that this is one amazing quilt. Making each part and watching the quilt come together has been very fun (and it probably helps that I LOVE the fabric). So, I hope that you will grab some of your favorite fabrics and sew along with us! If you really want to get into it, hop on over to our online-quilt-along at Quilters Club of America and join in!

I was torn between using a Christmas line or using Batiks. Opted for the Batiks because I figure I can display the quilt year around. I have the first installment blocks completed and am anxiously waiting for the next installment.

Just when I put myself on a “fabric diet”, you come up with this temptation! (I’ve been digging in my stash, and find myself with a red face from an embarrassment of riches.) Will have to look for the magazine. Surely, I have the perfect supply already?
