Patch Pals Border Swap

When we introduced the Patch Pals Collection in our Jan/Feb ’11 issue, we wanted these playful characters to be easy-to-piece and simply made from squares and a few triangles. The crib quilts in this collection are all the same size and their borders are interchangeable, making it easy to customize your project. These quilts make great baby or shower gifts for the special little one in your life.

Here are Beary Patch, Quack Patch and Ruff Patch as they were originally patterned. Kits for all of these Patch Pals can be found at quiltandsewshop.com.

When I read all the comments regarding the Patch Pals, I believed I could have written all of them. I love, love, love them, having made five – the Teddy Bear, Bunny, Monkey, Penguin and Elephant. I was soooooooooo disappointed to read that the Reindeer was the last of the series. I hope, hope, hope you will reconsider and continue the series with (hint, hint) a lion, giraffe, kangaroo and kola bear to name just a few. Thanks for bringing so much fun into the lives of your quilting subscribers.

I am a new subscriber and so far have the monkey and the elephant patterns. These are darling — perfect for Quilts for Kids quilters. This year I began following Joan Ford’s advice in “Scrap Therapy”, cutting all my scraps into 2″, 3.5″ and 5″ squares. As a result, have a huge collection of 2″ squares. So I’ll adjust the squares in the patterns and wind up with quilts to delight babies and youngsters. For anyone wanting to make a Patch Pal quilt and help a child in need, I encourage you to donate your quilt to Quilts for Kids. For more information visit QuiltsForKids.org.

I would really like a hippo using patches. Do you have one I can purchase?

  5. I have made the bear, elephant, duckie, monkey, penguins, bunny and the turtle. I am working on the kitty and another turtle gave some as baby shower gifts and kept the rest. Love Love them. Just recieved this month’s magazine and can’t wait to make the Owl. I am going to do mine in halloween fabric. I change up the borders and use colors from my stash. Love this series and look forward to each new addition.

I have made all the animals and am donating them to Linus. My magazine hasn’t arrived yet with the elephant. But I have already pulled the fabrics. I made the panda bear just from the picture. That is how easy these are. Thank you quiltmaker for these wonderful, wonderful patterns.

  7. Linda Rielly says:

For the brown border I’m assuming a tiger and for the dark blue border a whale or a dolphin. Just love the animal quilt blocks they are so cute.

  8. Mary Nash says:

I love Quiltmaker Magazine. I have many years that I have saved and pull out all the time to have a cup of coffee, put my feet up and slowly turn those pages, studying to see what is there, a new pattern, just the thing I was looking for or a color combination. I like that it gives color options and tips. I would choose the dogs, any of then, as I have 4 schnausers. I love the full size patterns. I get it and read it at least 3x, cover to cover before I file it. Then I still go back……I may have forgotten what was in there, so it is like a new one to me. Ruff Patch reminds me of my dog “Woofie”….lots of enthausim.

  9. Julie Shipp says:

I desperately need the Jan/Feb 2011 issue. I need to make beary patch for my new grand childs room and the colors in the kit do not match what I need. Any suggestions on how to get a copy, it is no longer for sale on this website. Thanks,
    Cathy

Are you going to give instructions for the Panda Bear Pal? I’m making the Beary Patch now and would love to make the Panda as well.

  16. Lucy says:

I love the Panda especially with the checker board boarder. I love these patterns as they are so cute and easily put together. I’m going to make the dog next but might need to make a Panda! I’m looking forward to seeing a kitty sometime in this grouping.
Denise – thanks for the great designs.

  17. Valerie says:

I’m guessing a cat and a frog. Both cute for babies. Love your magazine. It’s the best out there.

  18. Ginny B says:

I am hoping you are going to do a monkey, elephant, and/or giraffe. Any one of these three would go in my future grandchild’s nursery. I need to be done before August. In any case, these are great!

  19. Mary vJ says:

I am guessing you have a tiger and a peacock ahead? or maybe a whale?

  20. susan says:
