What are your favorite kinds of quilts to design? Why?

I like to design unique pictorial quilts. In the traditional sense of quilting, someone might use a certain fabric to remember a loved one. I use a pictorial image to convey a memory. With my artistic background, I find foundation piecing comes natural to me. I love the challenge to break an object up into geometric shapes and transpose it into a piece of paper to sew in fabric.

If you could offer one piece of advice for aspiring quilt designers today, what would it be?

Follow what you truly love and believe in. There are so many different techniques, applications and styles that there is no "wrong way." Designing quilts is a personal expression, and it's great when others enjoy them too!

Ragamuffins
I enjoyed reading about your journey with quilts. I really like the looks of your quilts using stylized pictures. I am trying to locate the patterns for the quilt blocks used in the Ragamuffins quilt in the Sept/Oct '00 (No. 75) issue of Quiltmaker. Please can someone help me? I saw a quilt made in the Sew and Speak section of Sept/Oct '04 Issue No.99 and the dog looks just like my puppy.
