Batik Remix 08 Winners
And the Winners Are . . .
Wow! We were blown away by the magnificent creations entered in our Batik Remix ’08 contest. The challenge was to give any Quiltmaker pattern an original interpretation using Robert Kaufman Artisan Batiks. Debra Lunn and Michael Mrowka, the artists behind these stunning batiks, joined QM Executive Editor June Dudley to select the winners.
Reflections of a Rising Sun
Ann took a block from a very traditional quilt and then let her imagination take over. She adapted the foundation arcs and resized them to make circles of many sizes. She repeated them, layered them, played with colors and fussy cut batik motifs to make this stunning quilt. Ann used Sharon Schamber’s “Piec-lique” technique to applique all of the circles to her background. She finished with beautiful quilting, often letting the batik designs guide her. Congratulations Ann—thanks for the inspiration!
