Jack in the Box |

Stitch-and-flip with a bonus
Instructions to make the Jack in the Box block can be found in Bonnie Hunter's Addicted to Scraps column in the January/February '11 issue of Quiltmaker. Buy this issue.
Bonnie's method for making the Jack in the Box block results in bonus triangle-squares (2" unfinished). Use these triangle-squares to make Pinwheels. Sew 4 triangle-squares of the same color together to make a Pinwheel. Cut rectangles 4" x 8 1/2" for the sashing strips.
For a 61" x 61" quilt (as shown), you will need 25 Jack in the Box blocks, 36 Pinwheels and 60 rectangles for sashes. Sew 6 Pinwheels and 5 rectangles together for the sash rows. Sew 6 rectangles and 5 blocks together to make rows. Sew the rows together as shown.
